I have been wanting to try this place for ages.
When we walked in we were surprised at the seeming lack of conversation from an almost full shop. It appeared that two owners were working on laptops at 1 of only 4 tables in the upstairs.
The prices are pretty decent. I was intrigued to try some of the fried pickles, which they were out of. Instead we tried the paradisi salad. This was awful. In looking over the menu again, I do not think peanuts or the dressing made it in. It was chunks of cucumber and grapefruit with shaved coconut and mint. We both had one bite. The website photos were completely different than what we received.
The chicken was delicious. Simply put, without the chicken I would say no stars. They fry their chicken perfectly.
Sauces... This is another awkward part of our meal. Our server was unable to make a clear recommendation on the sauces, suggesting we just try 4. 3 of these came in single use plastic and one came in the same large metal cup our salad came in. The blue cheese tasted like it was mayo with blue cheese crumbles added. It lacked salt and any flavour at all. These crumbles were so large they didn't get picked up with the fries. The bokadoosh, their 3 chilli sauce had a tiny bit of heat, but was essentially ketchup, probably liquid smoke, some sugar and chilli. It was kind of boring. We had two other sauces, one was delicious, but very thin and awkward to dip fries into. I think it was the goku... Definitely had fish sauce. Finally the buffalo sauce. This was pretty good, although again needing some salt.
Finally, in reading the website it claims that service charge is optional. It does not appear as such on the bill. Below the subtotal 10% is added as service charge and a total is given. It's easy to miss as I did. The service was not good by any description. Adequate at best. The speed which the food came out considering we had the only order was surprisingly slow. I really wanted to like this place. I am really disappointed in nearly every aspect. We wont be returning, and I wont be recommending it to...
Read moreThis place looks from the outside like it is trying to be a step above the rest. Nice branding, interesting menu and the promise of free range chicken written on the window. I appears from the street as an upmarket chicken shop.
It’s safe to say I entered with some expectations that this would be a high quality chicken shop and not just your average LFC.
Once inside the room was quite cold and there was a smell in the air, but not the smell of chicken frying...just a weird smell neither good or bad.
Feeling slightly uncomfortable I ordered the chicken wings Bok style with BBQ sauce, they don’t come with fries you have to order those seperate, this place isn’t cheap which isn’t a problem if the quality is high.
Unfortunately once the food arrived my chicken was over cooked and didn’t taste good. I ate a couple of wings before deciding I would eat no more and asked the staff for a resolution to which the waitress offered 10% off.
I then had to share my Wife’s dish which was ok but again not particularly tasty just alright. Asked the staff to remove my chicken off the bill and left soon afterwards. Unfortunately I won’t be heading back anytime soon this place looks the part but failed to deliver. Staff were all good though to be...
Read moreAfter following this place on Instagram for the last month I was really looking forward to our visit. Very disappointed! Satay burger was smother ed in chilli jam and Satay sauce that was straight out the fridge - making bun and chicken cold. Chicken was bland and unseasoned. The "no chilli" rated Matcha wings were covered in chilli flakes and are coated in spicy batter....when this was brought up with the staff, we were told next time we can request no spice or a different sauce, surely thats the point of the description and rating? The sides were good. I liked the wings but they were no good for the 11 year old they were ordered for. We were sat by the window and someone who worked there called Jamie, ordered takeaway- he had parked right by the window and had his hazards on for 20 minutes blinking in our faces whilst we ate. And finally, when paying and being asked about the rest of our evening, we explained "nothing" as daughter wasn't feeling great and spicy wings hadn't helped she was like - "oh food coma?" no no - she didn't eat anything!! They clearly didn't listen. Not worth the £45 we paid. They did, however, have paper straws which are better for the...
