SOME GOOD PONTS & SOME BAD POINTS. First, the cafe is located in a wonderful period building as part of the funicular Victorian tramway to the beach, It offers fabulous views from their upstairs dining room accross Scarborough bay. So what’s not to like ‘I hear you ask’ - the service and their food. When ordering I was informed that there was a 40 minute wait for food, which I accepted. However, the drinks arrived immediately, which meant that I had finished my cuppa by the time the food arrived, this left me struggling to eat my sarni as I had no drink left, (I nicked some of the wife’s coke tho lol). The food was served on wooden boards, I’m not a fan of these as I think that they harbour germs (just my opinion). My wife had a prawn sandwich on brown, the bread was stale and hard, I was informed that the prawns were tasteless too. I had their steak & cheese baguette, this came with coleslaw and salad garnish + fries with their skins on. The staff were friendly and polite, but not very attentive. Now I know that fingers were invented before forks. However, I would’ve liked a fork to make it easier for me to eat my coleslaw and salad, I did improvise however, and I used my Tea spoon from my now finished brew, I struggled eating my fries though with the spoon! A good job that they had toilets to enable me to wash my hands after eating my meal as there were no serviettes provided either. I would’ve asked the waitress for cutlery, and serviettes but she’d long disappeared downstairs, never to return to ask if things were ok! So, if you go, enjoy the views from upstairs, be prepared to wait for food , don’t drink your drink before your food arrives, wash your hands to save on washing up, and wipe your mouth on your sweater. Oh, and if the waitress does make an appearance upstairs to bring your food, make sure that you have your cutlery cos odds on you’ll not see the...
Read moreJust visiting Scarborough and was looking for somewhere for breakfast. Found The Cat’s Pyjamas, and it’s a very lovely building and setting. I was disappointed by the food and presentation though. I thought the Avocado and Halloumi on toast sounded very nice. I expected the toast to come buttered with a presentation of avocado and halloumi on top, and perhaps some relish to help make it look presentable and appetising. What I got instead was a stack of unbuttered toast (although butter portions were supplied) with two slices of halloumi on top of each other on the side. Then half an avocado had been plonked on top of the halloumi, still resembling half an avocado, but just sliced. What pushed me over the edge though was the fact that the avocado was blackened in parts. I took it back and explained this and after a wait my plate was returned looking very similar, but just with the avocado chopped and the black bits taken out. Some of the blackness was still present. I ate the dish and the halloumi and toast were good, although the black parts of the avocado did ruin the experience. To top it off I went to the loo to wash my hands and there was no soap in the soap dispenser. Shame because it’s a lovely place! Please just think about...
Read moreHad the most unpleasant experience... We ordered and paid for our breakfasts; teas and coffees arrived after around 10 minutes. Almost another 40 mins had passed and no food. We asked twice how much longer it would take for our food to arrive but did not get an answer, literally just ignored. Eventually after around an hour we decided to leave so requested a refund.... that's when it got.... well... just crazy The manageress became rude and aggressive and would only provide a partial refund. I couldn't quite believe her behaviour. There is not a lot you can do in this situation so I commented that I would be posting a review of our experience - the manageress then grabbed my arm and aggressively said "You do that". Aside from it being ABH, we are in the middle of a COVID pandemic where all physical contact should be avoided. It was the most insanely crazy response to a poor service complaint... Basil Faulty is the only comparison I can think of... We just left as quickly as possible as we had to vert elderly ladies in our party, both in their 80s, who were quite shaken up by the manageress' behaviour. it really was a most bizarre and unpleasant...
