Not the first time I’ve been to The Duck and won’t be the last. Nipped in for a quick lunch with a few friends - the standard menu was very appealling but we all opted for one of the ‘specials’ - and special it was. Finely cooked Roast Beef, Horseradish Sauce and gravy in a Yorkshire Pudding ‘sandwich’, served with a side of salt and pepper chips. Time seemed to stand still when our meals were brought out - beautifully presented with even the salad garnish appearing obscenely appetising. The meals were well portioned and adequate for those with smaller appetites while still filling for those who would usually eat more. The Beef melted in the mouth, the Yorkshires were fluffy and perfectly cooked and the gravy was like the nectar of the Gods - rich, flavourful and just the right consistency. Perfect balance between the wider meal and the contrasting Horseradish and the chips were ideal for snacking on and mopping up the remnants of the gravy. I’ve now had two very different meals at The Duck and have been impressed on both occasions. I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoyed good food, well cooked and prepared meals and those who like entertaining creative twists on classic and...
Read moreThe food at the duck was cooked to and presented to a very high standard, and the service was prompt and friendly. But there was just a little left to be desired about the atmosphere, my personal meal, and decor of the restaurant that pipped off one star for me. But that is just me being critical, I would still recommend people eat at this establishment!
Firstly (and I know this may sound picky!), the front door isn't the most inviting of things. The decor inside felt slightly dated, and was in need of a bit of modernising to bring it in line with similar restaurants (mainly the white walls with spotlight combo giving it such a clinical feel!). The decor and atmosphere was a little less cosy then we wanted for evening dining. My partner had the belly pork main and it was divine, but my beef shin main fell a little short. You can tell it was cooked fantastically, but I was simply expecting a more aromatic and well.. asian palette from it. However, the dessert of the choux bun was exquisite and I would quite happily grow fat on it every day until I die. The cocktails are also highly recommended and well presented, with a great variety. Overall, an enjoyable meal out with a...
Read moreA group of friends were visiting from overseas and wanted to go to the Isle of Wight for a day trip. Based on it's good reputation, we went to The Duck for lunch and had a fantastic meal.
It's about a 10/12 minute walk from the Hoverport, so easy to get to. Plenty of parking nearby if needed. The menu was great, and we picked a few starters to share followed my main courses.
All of the food we had was delicious and beautifully presented. Standouts of the starters for us were the pork belly and bean, and the scallops on a creamy spaghetti. For main course I had the perfectly cooked seabass on an incredible bed of potatoes. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their main courses too. For the lamb burger, note the 'bun' is a single square at the base and no top piece, but this is meant to be eaten with knife and fork and - I was reliably told by two of my friends who had it - was "amazing".
A couple of us had wine, for which we chose a lovely example of a Picpoul-de-Pinet. Other wine options looked great too.
For four of us, with three starters and a main each, plus a bottle of wine and some beers was £144, so £36 each plus a...
