Visiting Leicester over the Christmas break, we went to The Frame for a New Year’s Eve lunch. It’s the first time I had seen this restaurant and it was quite stunning. Very pretty and just something Leicester needs. They offer a generous set menu for £35, which is the same menu as the a la charge which is nice to see as most restaurants have the more ‘average’ dishes in their set menu instead. They also had a mezze menu. For drinks I got a spicy picante. Not the best I’ve tried, it had a lot of agave and not enough lime but was quite spicy. For food we got two dishes from the mezze, the whipped feta and the muhammara both were very good. I thought the feta was more crumbled than whipped, still good but just an observation. From the small plates menu we got calamari, chicken wings and padron peppers. The padron peppers needed a bit more scorching and was not a lot on the plate. However the calamari and wings were delicious. Calamari had a nice sprinkling of garlic whilst the wings had these lovely pickled and charred onions which I enjoyed a lot. For big plates we got the half chicken and cod. Both very good. The chicken was a huge portion and came with very mildly pickled cucumbers (very soggy and not enough tartness). The cod was spiced beautifully however the potatoes that came with it were a bit on the raw side so let it down. We also got a side of chips and caramelised sweet potato. The chips were sooooo good and lovely aioli all over. The caramelised sweet potato was more charred and undercooked sweet potato. The potatoes do really need improving in some dishes. All in all, I’d go again. I did enjoy the atmosphere and quite a few of the dishes. Some dishes definitely just need a bit...

Also the meat is all Halal apparently. I ordered the risotto - it's listed as mushroom, butternut squash and tomato. I was expecting a light and healthy dish so I was pretty disappointed when I tried the dish and it was full of cheese (it's listed as a vegan dish so must be vegan cheese). I know risotto can come with cheese but it's not an essential part of the dish, so why was it not written on the menu that it includes cheese? I packed it and took it home and my family all think that the cheese was off because that's how pungent it smelt. So I would not recommend the risotto. My friends got the Mac n cheese, prawns and chicken kebab. They said the food was nice but they wouldn't come back here so make of that what you will. Secondly, service, I really value good service especially at a fine dining style restaurant. When I first asked if there was any non-fizzy lemonade, the waiter laughed at me. This made me feel so put down so that when the risotto came, I didn't have the confidence to complain about the dish. And to top it all off, there were no proper takeaway boxes or bags to wrap things up in. I was very disappointed especially because I was the one who suggested this place to my friends and the reviews looked so good. Maybe we just had a bad experience? Anyway it will take a lot for me to come back here or recommend...
Read moreVisited The Frame tonight for the third time since it opened last week, can’t stay away. St. Martin’s square is the perfect setting for this beautiful venue, there’s nothing else like it in Leicester. Each time we’ve been welcomed at the door by friendly staff (special mentions go to Danielle and Dennis), and offered a table in the downstairs area, as the upstairs isn’t open until next month. Service is warm and attentive, not intrusive and full of recommendations. Cocktails look stunning and are fairly priced, we’ve so far had a Mediterranean Mule and an Espresso Martini, both lovely and very complimentary of the food. THE FOOD! Where do I start? Full of flavour, exquisitely fresh, to die for. I never expected corn ribs to taste so good, 100% recommended. The tasting menu so far is a sample of what’s to come, with some mezze dishes (served with the tastiest pitta I’ve ever had), a few small plates (including the amazing corn ribs and the just as amazing bruschetta), and some sides, including triple cooked chips. The name “triple cooked chips” does not do them justice, they’re incredible and full of flavour, covered in Parmesan and aioli. Unfortunately each time I’ve been too full to try the desserts, but they looked and sounded incredible and I’ll need to save some space for them next time! Service ✅ Value for money ✅ Food ✅🥹🤤😍
