The Pub on Victoria Dock has been through a few changes over the years but the latest iteration, The Three Crowns, is a bit of a change but not for the better. Martson's have spent a lot of money transforming the old "Goldcrest" into the new Three Crowns, adding a pool table, outdoor TV area and a new menu but this has come at a cost. The once family friendly, local pub has lost that feel completely. Visiting the pub as a family after the revamp was an interesting experience. When it was the Goldcrest, there was a children's play area both inside and out and now it is more of an adult oriented pub that feels more like it should be located in the town centre than in a family based community. The food we had was good however, having a couple of burgers and a pizza but this is the shame of it. Families would go to the pub after school and maybe stay for a few hours, have drinks and food while the kids enjoyed the play areas. Now they can't even play on the pool table and are not welcome later in the evening. The Three Crowns is worth a short visit for the food as a family, but if you are looking for place for the kids to enjoy themselves as much as you will, you will have to go elsewhere.

Very nice clean car park. Nice clean interior and toilets. Friendly staff, had a laugh after order placed at the bar, staff member was taking out cash to give me my change, but hadn't given any cash as I was paying by card, I said, you can give me the money if you like. I got a turkey dinner, but it wasn't carved from an actual turkey it was like something you'd get from a deli. Mam got a prawn cocktail and chips as she's not a big eater, sister got mac and cheese with popcorn chicken topping, she liked that. Woman came to ask if everything was OK, as they do, I waggled the Yorkshire pudding at her and said this could do to be crisper, no offer of presenting me with a crisp one, just, oh well I and other people like them soft, which is not the point, as I don't and feel like something should have been done to please the customer. Even though I had a 40% off main meals voucher x 2 I won't be returning to spend the other one.

I normally don't put negative reviews, but I feel this needs to be said. Food quality and value for money, hmmmm!! think not. An extra £4.50 for pulled pork (BBQ sauce that might have seen pork sometimes but didn't mix) in a sharing nachos, which were £8.75 which had pre made vinegar tasting salsa and tastless quacamole. Got the £4.50 refund only after I challenged the pork % recipe which went from 'we buy it in pre made' to 'the chef made it to the recipe' to 'the chef admitted he put too much sauce in and not the right amount of pork'. I think porky pies were being given to begin with so asked to see the recipe card and will be challenging their head office. I know people are suffering in the cost of living crises but businesses suffer business costs not cost of living and they have everything costed to make a profit but please don't rip off your customers to make the margin.

I have visited today and I was impressed with the changes made to the pub. The Sunday lunch smelt amazing so we decided to order. That's the best part of this review as it all went down hill from there. We both ordered the beef which came with seasonal vegetables roast potatoes stuffing and a Yorkshire pudding with herby Gravy. The food was 40 minutes from ordering to table the place was relatively quite so I was surprised with the wait. When this arrived I could see straight away I was very disappointed the vegatables looked over cooked very sloppy stewed like looking red cabbage and 2 aunt Bessie's roast potatoes. I tried the beef it was fatty in places over cooked and tough as old boots, I asked for a steak knife to cut it and they gave me one without asking if I had a problem with the food. I really tried to enjoy the food but I had to admit that I wouldn't expect to get this in Tesco cafe let alone in a nice pub at a cost if £10.55. My husband did in fact eat all his food however this was in hunger more than enjoyment. Not one member of staff came over to see if our meal was satisfactory even though the bar tender was stood talking to customers on the fvery next table and could see my plate which was finished was still full of food. Yes I could have complained but I didn't yes I could have sent back which I didn't. My reason for this is because I didn't have time to wait for another meal and my point is no one should be presented with such a meal. This is a very honest review ofy own personal experience of Sunday lunch here. Some people may enjoy tough beef and over cooked vegatable but not for me. I will not return to this pub...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Three Crowns Pub in Hull, and I must say, it was an absolute delight from start to finish! This charming establishment truly exceeded all my expectations and left me with an unforgettable experience.

From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by warm and friendly staff who made me feel right at home. The ambiance of the pub was cozy and inviting, with a perfect blend of traditional and modern decor. The dim lighting and comfortable seating created a relaxed atmosphere that was perfect for enjoying a pint or two.

Now, let's talk about the food. The Three Crowns Pub goes above and beyond with its delectable menu options. I had the pleasure of trying their signature dish, the Three Crowns Burger, and let me tell you, it was a burger lover's dream come true. The patty was juicy and flavorful, the toppings were fresh and generous, and the bun was perfectly toasted. Each bite was a burst of culinary delight. The menu also offered a range of other appetizing choices, from classic pub favorites to vegetarian and vegan options, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend The Three Crowns Pub enough. It is a true gem in Hull, offering exceptional food, an impressive selection of drinks, and a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a casual pint, a delicious meal, or a fun night out, this pub has it all. Five stars are not enough to express how much I enjoyed my visit. Make sure to put The Three Crowns Pub on your must-visit list...

Revisiting

We have been regulars on and off since the previous manager Rich and its former name Goldcrest.

The refit and change of name to Three Crowns was long overdue but something wasn’t right. The food and drink went downhill and people didn’t use it. Especially bad when it’s in a prominent position on Victoria Dock

Happy to say things appear to be on the change. We visited tonight and it’s thr first time in along time we have had a meal which was actually served cooked as it should be and parts of which were that hot you couldn’t eat it !

I don’t mind letting food cool to eat but not when it’s served like warm to start with

It felt like walking and eating in a different establishment.

Ok it’s still not the cheapest nor if Michelin star quality but if you’ve visited since the refit and not bothered since then you would be recommended to try again

The new management couple have the attitude to make it work and the start of those changes begins - there is a noticeable difference.

As they will admit still things to do and a way to go but if it continues in this way then I wish them every success as the revamped pub that Victoria Dock deserves.

Thanks to Jade tonight for looking after us - brilliant service and very welcoming - and importantly read the requests when booking!!

Now just get some proper local real ale in and I’m sure it will be the pub it...
