I studied fashion at this college for 3 years. I have had a pleasant last two years working with some honest and passionate teachers who helped guide me in my work and provided plenty of time and commitment to my education. Entering the college not knowing which route to take, the current fashion lecturers have helped me define my work and provide me with a pathway for my future. Laura, Emma, Jenny, Sam and Steve are some of the best tutors that I have ever had. When I have not understood, they have explained the work in any possible way to enable me to understand. They have inspired me with their suggestions and feedback. These are professionals in my opinion. (Laura loves her role and it is hard to find someone so passionate about their job nowadays). They have picked up on my strengths and supported me working within other areas of the college with other teachers who have gladly excepted my intrusion to help further my studies. They all get on really well with eachother which creates a relaxing atmosphere. Fellow students work hard and seem passionate about their solo projects creating some great results. There is also excellent internal support from Suzannah if you need emotional support or have learning difficulties. Suzannah is well suited for her role within the college and is really easy to talk to. The college provide competitions with local businesses too. The only downside is if you're not locally from Hull. As I'm from Derbyshire, I was not accepted, but labelled a foreigner and I've struggled to fit in with peers who never accepted me. This was never the case with the tutors. They treated me equally to everyone else. Keep up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI cannot deter young adults from coming to this college enough!! I am currently towards the end of the studying L3 Criminology, Psychology and Law and I have never experienced such a poor eduction system as I have at my 3 years at Hull College.
Throughout this last school year, we have lost 4 members of staff who each taught one of the subjects (Crim, Psych, Law), leaving students studying the course both at Level 2 and 3 without lessons, with last minute timetable changes, mess of exams etc. The lack of support, guidance and explanation on several subjects, matters and issues etc., leaves students to figure everything out for themselves, with many classes referred to as āself-policedā which the teachers think is a good thing!!! As students aspiring to progress onto University, the last thing you need is a lack of lessons, last minute changes in end of year exams, cancelled trips, last minute cancellations to lessons and disrupted exams with unknowing invigilators and arrogant teachers who will find any excuse to blame the departments failures onto to you as a student. They are more concerned with completing āProgress reviewsā throughout the year, then they are actually making sure youāre making any progress. It took them 5 months to start making assignments! 3 times exam date was changed, twice the presentation date for the EPQ has been changed (oh and donāt worry, you wonāt be guided through the EPQ either!)
Honestly, the only thing that any student will come out with from Hull College is a headache! To anyone who comes to this college, more specifically the Crim and Law Departmentā¦. Good Luck,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy experience at Hull College has been extremely disappointing. From the start, the atmosphere was unwelcoming and unprofessional. On my course, a tutor actually told us that we ācouldnāt get anywhere in life,ā which was not only discouraging but completely unacceptable coming from someone meant to be supporting and motivating students.
The staff in general were often rude rather than helpful. One incident that really stood out was when I asked at reception for help in speaking with a careers advisor. Instead of giving me support, a member of staff dismissed me with the comment, āheās not your mum.ā This was completely unnecessary, unprofessional, and left me feeling very uncomfortable.
The college environment overall dragged me and my friend down instead of helping us grow. I never felt supported or encouraged, only looked down on. Because of this, Iāve chosen to continue my Level 2 course elsewhere at a much better college, where I already feel more respected and valued. The only staff member in this college who was really nice and respectful towards me and my friend was Andy he was always is helpful and made us feel welcome. Iām happy to say me and my friend are on a level 2 sports course at a different college which has made us feel welcome immediately.
Hull College should be a place that uplifts and inspires students, but unfortunately my experience was the...
