Generally the most crazy experience. Horrific food poisoning and abuse. We ate here, and I must say the food at the time tasted great and the team seemed very lovely. Paid via bank transfer because it doesn’t allow card payments. We must have read the bill wrong (it’s handwritten) because we thought we transferred extra with a tip on top. We waited to show her the transfer before leaving to prove we had paid. She looks and waves us off goodbye. But it turns out we had underpaid by £16- unbeknown to us. For the next 24 hours we have been unable to leave the bathroom due to awful food poisoning. I then go on Facebook to find a message from Tookta, explaining that we had underpaid. And even though I had such bad food poisoning it’s probably put me off a Massaman for life, I still immediately transfer the money because the underpayment was not intentional and we ate what we ate.
But I also in the meantime had received 2 other messages from people calling me scum of the earth and evil and threatening me! This is WILD. If I was really trying to steal why, oh why, would I transfer more than 3/4 of the bill to begin with. Also accused of blocking because I have a very normal setting on my Facebook where you can only receive message requests from strangers. It makes you question what was immediately said about me and my details shared so that complete strangers could threaten me? I have transferred the remaining money, but perhaps If you don’t want to accept card payments, so that you can dodge tax, then maybe check the amount being transferred whilst in the restaurant, so that you don’t have to whip up hatred against people on Facebook and this all could have been avoided!! So I would probably avoid this restaurant unless you want the risk of food poisoning combined with abuse...
Read moreThis is a very cute restaurant but the food was disappointing. I am really confused by the other reviews who have said this is authentic Thai food. The food is nothing like any Thai food I have ever eaten in Thailand or at any good Thai restaurant in in the UK. The presentation was beautiful and service was good and the ambience was lovely, really intimate and perfect for a romantic meal as you are very closely seated. However, the food was lacking. The sauce for the Thai Red curry was overpowered with double cream and tasted like an English tomato soup, and similarly the Matsuman curry had the same creamy taste and texture. We picked out the meat to eat with the rice because we were hungry. The spicy squid was battered, soggy and oily in a sweet sticky sauce without a hint of spice. The Tom yum soup base was the best part of the meal and was spicy and delicious but the mushrooms were raw. I had high hopes for this place but I wouldn't go again. It may be that the owners have adapted the taste to the local clientele and that's why the curries were creamy and sweet. Not really a place...
Read moreWe visited during COVID-19 restrictions in place for restaurants and a result we booked in advance based upon Google reviews. This place is off a main road and on first impressions you might feel a bit underwhelmed by the location. The restaurant is really small but homely, we were greeted by the owner of the restaurant, service was really friendly and attentive. Ordered a chicken green curry, beef massaman curry and pad thai, these are all par for the course Thai dishes you can find in any Thai restaurant. My expectations were blown away when we tasted them. The Pad Thai was one of the best I've ever had (and I've had a few) the perfect balance of sour from tamarind, delicious noodles, crunchy crushed peanut. Both curries were also amazing with the balance of flavours spot on. After we finished eating the wife of the owner who works in the kitchen came and spoke to us which was a really nice touch. I cannot recommend this place enough and will definitely be back next time I'm...
