Racist and prejudiced restaurant. Avoid if you’re not English. The manager refused to serve a Pakistani (or Iranian?) veiled family in front of us - there was a lady who had apparently called the restaurant for a lunch booking with her kids and they refused her saying they were closed when they were in fact open! She ended up there just to prove them wrong and gave the manager a verbal smashing. The guy was embarrassed and admitted he lied and profusely apologized upon being slammed in front of the customers. He admitted he told her it was closed as he didn’t want to serve her. We were about to order when this happened this afternoon - and left as we didn’t want to dine in such a horrid place.
Also, this place is not entirely halal in their meat. They don’t say it but items like the lasagne are not halal - only upon questioning and interrogating can one find out what is halal and what is not. Which makes their other meat doubtful too. Again, deceitful.
Edit: The restaurant has posted a rubbish response below. So this is my response to them. We were outside the door, when the lady was yelling at your man at the reception for lying and deceiving them, and saw his sheepish face. And we turned away. We didn’t even speak to you nor did we enter your restaurant. Check your cameras ;) So there was no argument nor conversation between me and your people. And stop lying on Google. Shows the kind of person you are and the kind of restaurant you run. No wonder there are no positive reviews from Asians on your restaurant. We would've complained to the cops if we had the time - what you did was illegal in Scotland. We took our time and our money to the other Middle Eastern place also run by Turkish people that was much more receptive and had better food. Try that out folks on Google, plus a whole lot of better dining spots...
Read moreI had babaganoush to start my dinner. Although it was a bit too garlicky, it was delicious.
For my main course, I ordered an Iskender Kebap, and, my goodness, what a mistake! I am Turkish, I had Iskender many times in many different cities in Türkiye, but also in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Paris.
This was by far the worst one. Now, let's be fair: the quality of the meat was good. The lamb was cooked just as it should be, soft and tender.
The problems came with the way the dish was presented, the sauce and the bread under the meat.
The pita bread needs to be crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. This can be achieved despite the fact that the bread might be soaked in tomato sauce. The crunchiness would disappear in time, but the first few bites would be crunchy. This dish did not even have a toasted pita. It was cold.
In and of itself, this would not be an issue if the sauce and the bread were not separated by the meat. Due to the fact the meat is not a real İskender meat (think döner), and due to the fact that the chef chose an odd way to plate this dish, the sauce did not reach the bread.
And the sauce was the main disappointment. This sauce has nothing to do with Mediterranean taste palate, let alone Turkish. It was more in the Indian taste palate, and it just does not match what one would be looking to taste in an Iskender Kebap plate.
The service was attentive and friendly.
There are 2 more restaurants that are serving Turkish food in Inverness, and I did not have a chance to try them, so I can not compare this restaurant to them. But if you choose Nar Restaurant, skip the...
Read moreWhat a mixed bag! Ordered a can of Coke and a large bottle of sparkling water from the menu but they young American waitress turns up with a small bottle of water - when I question the size she says this is the large one, l point to the menu and she says she has none - not a "sorry" in there. Garlic mushrooms to start were startlingly excellent and the tzatziki was, well tzatziki. For mains we opted for a lamb casserole and a chicken iskender but sadly both were average. The iskender was an odd mix of piping hot spiced chicken strips laid on chilled bread and against fridge temperature yoghurt. The lamb casserole was ok but the meat was cut so small it was hard to find so it had the overall experience was more soup like than casserole. It was also expensive, just come up from Edinburgh and it made that city seem cheap! Final word on the service - the two young American ladies were efficient but completely lacking in empathy or...
