Upon entering the restaurant, my 3 year old, was telling us (his parents) he was really hungry.
The lady server came out from the kitchen.
There was about 4 tables with guests (mostly couples, the table in the middle had a family with a kid about 5/6 years old).
The lady server didn't offer us (family of 4/2 children) a table and basically said she couldn't serve us, especially with hungry children, as the kitchen was busy. She couldn't say how long any wait would be and literally opened the door to show us out.
Any families with children wanting to attend this restaurant should feed their children before hand. It's definitely not kid or family friendly.
We are a relatively young couple and have a 7 year old too. We have lived in different countries, visited different places with our children (including those without baby changing facilities and therefore not family-oriented) but never have we ever experienced service like this before.
They did not attempt to serve us/want our custom.
EDITED to reply to restaurant's response:
Firstly, we did not say to the server that our children were hungry. She DID NOT ask if the children were hungry. She did not ask if we would wait. She did not give us an option.
She said she can not serve hungry children because there are many orders ahead of us. That was when we asked how long the wait would be. She did not know. Most food places can give an estimated wait time. My family own a restaurant. I grew up in a restaurant and I worked in it.
Based on the server's response about being unable to feed hungry children (first thing that was said), not knowing the wait time (second thing that was said), and not offering us a table to begin with, she hadn't even picked up menus ready to take us to a table - we took that as they did not want our custom. It was unwelcoming. My husband looked on his phone for an alternative place to eat.
The server had opened the front door for a stock/ingredients delivery to enter the restaurant during our conversation, and then she stayed at the door, waiting for...
Read moreWe had a little time before our train today and our eldest son (7) wanted to go on the West Cliff Lift. So we thought to go to Sakura Terrace for quick lunch.
Our youngest son (3) was hungry and made a little noise upon entry. The lady server came out from the kitchen.
It was 12.30pm, they had just opened at 12pm for lunch. There were only about 4 tables with guests (mostly couples, one in the middle with a kid a little younger than our eldest). Definitely not busy.
The lady server didn't offer us a table and instead rather than greet us went on to say that she wasn't sure when the food would arrive as there was one person in the kitchen and it was busy - basically suggesting she couldn't serve us, especially with hungry children. She couldn't say how long any wait would be and literally opened the door for us to show us out. Amazing behaviour.
None of us were impressed, our kids are not easily disappointed but were left puzzled by the lady's behaviour.
If any families with young children want to attend, they better feed their children before going. Don't go there hungry. Avoid, avoid, avoid! The worst service and we hadn't even sat down. The sad thing is we have family members who live minutes away who recommended this place.
Lucky 7bone Burger Co welcomed us warmly with open arms and we all had a fantastic lunch before our train back to London.
Zero star rating for Sakura Terrace - massive 👎🏽 for this place.
*In response to the restaurants reply - the very reason I was looking at my phone was to look for alternative dining options as my child was hungry and we were confused as to why the very first thing that was said was that the restaurant was busy rather than "hello welcome, please...
Read moreCame here a few weeks back for dinner. We ordered a teriyaki salmon Donburi, spicy beef ramen and also a volcano roll. The teriyaki salmon didn't have enough flavour (both the teriyaki and the salmon), the salmon can do with a bit more salt to bring out the flavours. The salmon was also slightly overcooked as it was a bit dry. As for the spicy beef ramen, I ordered this dish as I saw it was quite popular, however I was slightly disappointed with it or should I say there was no "wow" factor to it. The broth lacks flavour to it, it's just a spicy savoury soup, only when you drink a bit more of the broth in one go could you taste a hint of miso in it. The egg unfortunately isn't the soft centre ones you find when eating ramen and hasn't been marinated in soy sauce too. The beef is not bad, it does match quite well with the ramen. The volcano roll was the best out of the 3, highly recommend it. Overall the portion size of the food is great, food wise I'll definitely recommend their sushi. In terms of service, it's average, nothing major to complain about. Would just say that sometimes his response sounds a bit too blunt that would kind of make you feel a bit taken aback, but he is not rude. However as there was a 10% service charge, I would expect the service to be slightly better seeing I am dining in a Japanese restaurant. My husband asked for some warm water (as it was wet and windy that day) but the waiter said they only have hot or cold tap water, so we asked for some normal tap water it's fine. In the end we were given chilled tap water taken from the fridge... we really don't mind drinking water straight out from the tap, but luckily the food was hot...
