This was our first visit & for an "out of towner" I have to say I was suitably impressed. A very trendy bar with an impressive selection of beers, both on cask & keg. We didn't try the food but there were a few who did and whilst it's difficult to judge by looks alone, it was well presented & smelt good! The empy plates reinforced that too. The only downside I could see was the price, it wasn't the cheapest, but to coin & old phrase "you get what you pay for"? Personally I was there for the beers & there were 3 casked on offer, Beartown, best bitter, Wincle beer co, Life of Riley IPA, Thornbridge, Jaipur* (im told 4 in summer) & a good selection of craft & pilsner style beers on keg, including Blue Moon wheat beer. Both the Jaipur & the Life of Riley were in excellent condition. I didn't try the Beartown. Overall this was a superb bar, the service was excellent & the cleanliness equally so. The toilets, athough quite small, were also clean & tidy. A great assest for Buxton, we'll be back & maybe next time we'll sample the food. Recommended

Simple presentation, no fuss, maximum taste!! Really good fresh food, best gluten free chicken burger the wife had ever had, which was essentially a fresh battered chicken fillet which had a crunchy batter, with a pea flour kind of taste. I had the Steak burger with Pulled Birra Beef and the flavour from the marinade "adoba" had that perfect sharpness and herby finish. No shiny sweet brioche here, just a good bun, skin on fries and pickled cabbage which was a balsamic picking juice or cider vinegar or both, either way was delicious. Blue Moon wheat beer with orange was a good pairing. Reasonably priced great service, staff were friendly and had a good sense of humour. The place to go in Buxton for Gluten free options and hot outstanding fresh food.

**4.5/5 stars** I can’t give .5 scores on Google. We had a lovely Sunday dinner at Lubens. The environment and atmosphere of the pub are top-notch - it has a cozy and welcoming vibe. The service was very good, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. They also have a great selection of ales, which is always a bonus! The food was generally spot on, with a delicious roast dinner that hit the spot. However, if I'm being picky, my one complaint would be that the beef was slightly overcooked. It was still tasty, but could have been more tender. Overall, we had a great experience at Lubens and would definitely recommend. The atmosphere and service make it a great spot to relax and unwind with family and friends.

This review is based on our last visit, which was a real 'off putter' & such a shame as we've been coming here for some 15 years, even when it used to be 53° & loved it every time until now.

We came for birthday celebrations, booked a table as it's always busy & greeted by the staff.

We sat down, & all was well until our father in law needed to use the disabled toilet, which was blocked off by tables & chairs, so we were duly moaned at upon his return...

After this we decided to switch tables. Within minutes, my wife, to her horror found she was stuck to the table with chewing gum on her new dress.

I caught the attention of the bar staff who saw the mess, fetched some tissues, agreed it was disgusting & promptly asked if we were ready to order our food!

Naturally after trying to clean the mess, with no avail, we had lost our appetite.

The bar area was becoming rather loud at this point with locals in work wear playing their phones very loudly which also killed the atmosphere.

We paid up & left promptly.

I appreciate this could have happened anywhere, but after returning home, we emailed Lubens, to mark out our disappointment, to which their reply skirted round the fact my wife's dress was ruined & offered no real apology or any offer to cover the cleaning bill/ replacement.

Such a shame, as this was one of the 'go to' places in Buxton for great food & a matching atmosphere.

Will we return anytime soon? sadly not at this...

So happy to have found Lubens! I’d recommend booking if you can, as we found it after a hike in the area. We managed to find a table and very glad we did.

The place was lovely and lively. In fact it was busy throughout the plenty of drinkers and eaters. The atmosphere was lovely.

We had a dog and it’s a fantastic dog friendly place.

They have a great drinks menu. Really well priced. My friend had a gorgeous French martini and I had a pinot noir.

The food selection was good. Lots to choose from depending on how hungry you are. We were hungry. 😋

My friend is gluten free and they we super helpful arranging food she could eat. She was even surprised by the lovely potatoes, which the team happily confirmed were cooked separately and gluten free.

I chose the fish cakes and was glad I did. Hot, crispy and gorgeous fish, potato, cheese and herb filling. The portion size was big and we were very happy.

Decided on the biscoff cheesecake too and that was a delicious end to the meal too.

Best of all. Staff were fabulous. Everyone so lovely and helpful, which I think is a rarity. So well done to you all. You clearly work hard and have a great team.

I’ll definitely come and make sure I book a table when I’m next...
