2021 review: Disappointed by the change to the Tap House. The combination with 53 Degrees has lost the best of each independent endeavour and resulted in something very generic.
The beer now plays second fiddle to the food. Within the first half an hour of our stay we'd been asked four times if we wanted to order a meal, and then were ignored for ages making it hard to order drinks.
We did order food eventually. It was tasty enough, well-priced. But this now feels like nana's favourite lunch spot rather than a credible tap house, which is a shame.
2020 review: Best pub in Buxton, and quite possibly the best brewery in England.
Incredible selection of beautiful beers with great tasting notes and a guide to what's coming on next. The staff are lovely, knowledgeable and helpful.
Good fries and sweet potato fries, and our friends were really happy with their sliders and burgers.
Only minor criticism is that the venue just feels a little sterile. It's newly decorated and sparkling clean, which is a good thing. It just lacks a bit of character and cosiness which is what you want from a pub you're going to spend the day in.
Definitely worth a visit and might be a good idea to book a table though as they...
Read moreHaving been fortunate enough to dine in some of the world's finest restaurants during my travels, I can confidently say my recent experience at The Taphouse in Buxton was truly exceptional. Last evening, I savoured an outstanding rendition of a British classic: a pie! A rich beef cheek and pancetta pie. Served alongside vibrant green beans, gloriously chunky homemade pont neuf chips, and a deeply flavourful, lip smacking, lip sticking homemade gravy, this was, in my professional opinion, the finest pie I've ever encountered, washed down by the breweries very own Cavern Ale. Coupled with service that was warmly friendly, genuinely enthusiastic, and impeccably professional, the entire experience earns a resounding 10/10. My sincere thanks to the chefs and the entire team (Jake, Max, and Charlie) at The Taphouse – a remarkable meal in Buxton - a wonderful surprise, and if you want to enjoy something that will be memorable, choose "Simon's Beef Cheek and...
Read moreFor lovers of tasty real ales, the Buxton Brewery (and the on-line order for delivery service) is very hard to beat. My wife and I have visited the Tap House four times, and have always enjoyed great beers, great bar food, and great (friendly and knowledgeable) service.
During the pandemic, we resorted to ordering on line, and the website is easy to use and works really well. Spend £50 or more, and delivery is free. In our experience from three orders this year, deliveries arrive within a couple of days.
We love IPAs (and Doubles and Triples) and you'll find excellent examples of those here. Our newest love are the seven (7) Buxton Barrel Masters collection 2020. As specialist, barrel aged, high ABV brews, they are (of course) rather more money than regular beers. But they are delicious beyond compare (look for Steinitz, Petrosian, Tap, Lasker, Rudenko, Morphy, and Capablanca. One of our favourite breweries in the world - HIGHLY...
