Really interesting building with large windows overlooking the street outside. Warm and busy on a damp, foggy Saturday afternoon in late October. Live sport is screened on several large TV screens, but it's not intrusive - it might be if there was a high profile event on. The selection of beers and drinks was excellent and the bar, bottles and glasses sparkled and was very inviting. We didn't eat (but the food being served was going down very well, looked good and the portions were of decent size), but stopped for a warm up and dry out after a walk on the hills surrounding Buxton and Burbage. The Old Club House is popular with a wide range of people and the bar is dog friendly with water and treats available. The main toilets, clean and tidy, are upstairs and a couple of seating areas in the bar have steps. I didn't spot a disabled toilet, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. If I lived in Buxton I think the Old Club House would be a place I visited quite often, the staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was busy, but not overly loud and the customers were a good mix of locals and visitors, ladies meeting up for a chat, families doing lunch and everyone else!

Second time coming but will definitely be the last! First time was fine, food was good and service too. It quickly went down hill.. The chicken and ham pie is advertised as an award winner, I dread to think what the competition was!! It was presented very well, but was obviously microwaved and soggy. With a small lump of mash potatoes and a literally spoon full of gravy. On top of this, my sister found a dead bug (I promise I’m not joking, an actually dead bug) in the lettuce on her burger. Was about to take a photo when the waitress quickly realised and took it away from me. Granted they replaced the burger, but the plate and chips were the same as before so the chips also went cold.. Service was ok, food arrived reasonably quickly for a Saturday afternoon. (Suppose microwaves don’t take long) but overall really disappointing. The 2 mains for £15.99 is a great idea to its credit Very limited vegan options (Burger or mushroom chilli) - this could really be improved also.

The Old Clubhouse is a lovely period building typical of centre of Buxton right next to the Opera House & close to the street entrance to the pavillion. I decided to have my lunch here during a busy Saturday when most places were very busy. Ordered a drink at the bar & adjacent to main bar area there is a separate dining area away from TV's etc. I ordered soup of the day which was French Onion & the Cod Chips & mushy peas. The soup was delicious just how I like it with some nice chunks of lightly toasted artisan bread. After this expected a lot from the mains but it was just ok with nothing particularly wrong except a tiny portion of peas that was smaller than the pot of tartare sauce, otherwise generally ok for pub standard. Staff are really nice & friendly & asked if all's ok without being overbearing. Nice traditional feel to this place which I'm sure will be very busy for pre-show drinks. Would return but probably try something else from menu.

Where to start….. I booked a table online. Arrived 10 mins before the time we booked, once inside there was a 20 deep queue at the bar. One person serving, he kept leaving though as he was also taking the food out! Finally a young lady came we told her we had booked a table, to which she just looked around and said “oh I can’t see one made up for you” At this point she has not even asked for my name. Finally said “you can sit over there in window”, I told her on the booking I had requested space for a pram as we were meeting our friends who have just had a baby. Her reply was “you can leave pram in doorway if you want”. We then sat down and got some drinks, I then ordered food on the app. Was sat waiting a good 20 mins when a young girl came over and said “have you ordered on app? I said I had. She then replied “well it’s going to be an hour wait at least for food as we shouldn’t be taking food orders if you didn’t book” I told her we had booked! She then replied “ oh I don’t know I’m brand new” so I asked if the drinks we had ordered with the food would be coming or are they and hour too! She then replied “I’m not sure, your better off going to bar as we don’t like people using app” what’s the point in having it then? She then said “well do you want to cancel?” I said I had paid on the app so was I going to get a refund her reply was “I don’t know how it works” and then walked off. She never returned!

Food arrived after around 45 mins, to be fair it was lovely that’s why I have given 2 starts purely on the food. No one cleared our table at all. The bar man/food server said “it’s because we are short staffed, do you want to go somewhere else” I replied “I would of if I had not travelled an hour to come here” I then ordered my children puddings, after waiting 20 mins for them the lady returned and said “we don’t have any bananas for your puddings” I did reply with “well there’s a surprise!”

I found the staff in this pub rude and just didn’t care at all. Not one apology just a shrug of the shoulders. Think ALL staff would benefit from some basic customer service training. I will not...

This is the second time visiting and its gotten worse. The drinks order was wrong and the food was abysmal. We ordered 3 drinks ( 1 pint of coke, 1/2 pint of diet coke, 1 pint of cider ). This being an easy mistake to make we let it pass and as it happened was a godsend ? We then ordered a sharing platter starter and 3 main meals. After a wait of around 35 mins the starter arrived but this was accompanied by one of the mains. Then the two other mains appeared. Luckily we picked a large table as it was now filling up with meals and sides. The sharing platter was fine. The sandwich was inedible. We had asked for any sauces and dressings to come separately but this didn't happen and the sandwich and salad were drenched and after only 1 bite of the meal it was deemed inedible. The mixed grill was very dry and came with a peppercorn sauce. The sauce was lumpy, cold and congealed. ( we asked for this to be replaced but nothing appeared ) The egg had obviously been made too early and had been put under heat as the sides were curled up but yoke was cooked on top and ' snotty' underneath. The sausage had been over cooked as this was as hard as a bullet. My meal was the mushroom pie and veg. The pie was all crust and little filling and this side of the plate was very hot. The mashed potato and veg on the other side of the plate was cold. Obviously half the plate was being kept warm and the other half was left to go cold. The gravy came in a little gravy boat but it was almost solid and would not pour out. When a member of staff appeared all these problems were mentioned and they were very apologetic, they removed the offending items and came back with a refund for 2 of the meals. This is some consolation but 2 of the party left hungry which is not acceptable. As I mentioned earlier one of the drinks was wrong but was a godsend -- that's because that was the sum total of her meal that evening, a pint of coke. Looking back, the menu is extensive but not rocket science. This showed lack of communication and a poorly run kitchen full of bad habits and poor practise.

Very...

I came here last friday prior to a show at the opera house with my 3 adult daughters and my mum A joint birthday/mothersday treat We arrived early and sat with drinks until the table was ready We then got our table and ordered food 4 steaks 3 rump and 2 sirloin and salt and chilli pepper chicken meal with sides My eldest doesnt eat salad of any kind so her steak was requested salad free The first meal out was rump the swrver passed this to her as she did my daughter stated hers was to be salad free- This was the point where the server took her spare hand grabbed the rocket salad with a bar and off the hot plate and continued to hand the meal over!! All 5 of us sat in dis belief at her actions She walked away returning with other food as ready The sirloin meal was a ball. Of fat inedible, this was my 63yr old mothers meal The food was not eaten the chicken was solid, plus the added issue of the server putting her hands into the meal, The server asked was everything ok the reply was do you want the truth she walked away The manager came over ahirtly after asked the same, she was informed of the actions, she was herself gobsmacked at what she was told, appologised several times offered free desserts or redund We opted for refund, as we didnt want more food after how the meal was manhandled We got 49 pounds out of a 96 pound bill refunded, we had planned to stay upto the hairspray show started but opted to go elsewhere and eat as people hadnt eaten I emailed the pub when i booked explaining this was a group of women travelling from Manchester celebrating birthdays, mine, and mithers day as 4 of us were mums I can only hope that the server was educated in food handling, and hope noone else has to endure this unbelievable service To be fair i know the manager was...
