I was enticed into Santiago to visit their deli and was met with the most wonderful smells, I knew I needed to visit again to dine in. A few weekends later I was able to do so for a Saturday lunch. The restaurant wasn't too busy but I would recommend booking regardless as I imagine it will only get busier.

The staff are very friendly and we were quickly greeted on arrival and seated. The service was very good and the staff balanced the right amount of attentiveness with the need to allow us to enjoy our meal.

The design of the restaurant is in a modern style with the tables spaced out nicely such that you didn't feel to cramped. The restaurant has a deli attached to it which sells traditional Spanish foods and wines. I particularly have purchased the candied Valencia almonds in the past which are delicious.

The menu contains an excellent amount of choice, both with food and drink. It recommends 4/5 tapas meals between 2 or 2/3 larger 'Ration' though the advantage of tapas is that you can order as much, or as little as you would like. The menu states that you can keep ordering throughout the course of your meal as much as you would like.

We went for 4 tapas dishes and one larger ration dish with a side of bread. We chose Patatas Bravas, Champiñones al Ajillo (Garlic Creamy Mushrooms), Gambas al Ajillo (Prawns with Garlic & Chilli), Albondigas caseras (Meatballs) & Belly Pork with Saffron Mash (Ration) which came to £45.90 with a couple of soft drinks each which for the outstanding quality of food was great value. This was by far enough food and we both left with full bellies.

Food is brought to you when it is ready instead of it all coming at once which was great as it meant you got it nice, fresh and hot! They come in bowls and the table has plates so everyone can grab what they want.

The particular standout dishes were the Gambas al Ajillo (Prawns with Garlic & Chilli) and the Champiñones al Ajillo (Garlic Creamy Mushrooms) which were cooked to perfection and packed with flavour.

My only feedback would be that I would like to see a couple more meatballs in the Albondigas Caseras and something to soak up the sauce which came with it.

Overall, a great addition to the Buxton Foodie scene and I do hope that Santiago continues to flourish. 100%...

Our visit to the Santiago’s tapas restaurant was an unforgettable culinary adventure that transported us straight to the streets of Spain. As soon as we stepped inside, I was enveloped in a warm and lively ambiance, with the sounds of laughter and clinking glasses filling the air. The rustic yet charming decor added to the authenticity of the experience, making me feel like I had stumbled upon a hidden gem in the heart of Spain.

The menu at the tapas restaurant was a treasure trove of tantalizing options, offering a wide variety of small plates bursting with flavours. From traditional staples like patatas bravas and chorizo al vino to inventive creations that showcased a fusion of Spanish and international influences, each dish was a work of art. The attention to detail was evident in every bite, with the perfect balance of spices, textures, and presentation. The highlight of the meal was the camaraderie and conviviality that came with sharing the dishes. It fostered a sense of togetherness and allowed us to sample a diverse range of flavours, creating a truly immersive and communal dining experience.

To complement the exquisite food, the tapas restaurant boasted an extensive selection of beers wines and spirits. The knowledgeable staff guided us through the wine list, recommending pairings that enhanced the flavours of the tapas. Their passion and expertise shone through, further enriching our dining experience. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were eager to accommodate any dietary preferences or answer questions about the menu.

Overall, our experience at the tapas restaurant exceeded all expectations. It was a culinary journey that celebrated the richness and diversity of Spanish cuisine. From the warm and inviting atmosphere to the exceptional food and impeccable service, every aspect was thoughtfully curated to create an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a seasoned tapas enthusiast or new to the concept, this restaurant is a...

If you are not local think twice about going here... We booked for 7pm on Sunday for dinner. We were told the kitchen would have closed at 7.20 over the phone which ended up not being true. It felt like they did not want us to book. When we arrived we were certainly not made to feel welcome to be honest. The owners are certainly more bothered and attentive to locals whilst visitors become invisible! If you are not local just think of having dinner somewhere else. Senior staff is abrasive and not interested at all in giving a good customer service. Service is chaotic although the young waiters do try.

The menu promises an authentic tapas experience with ingredients that you rarely see outside of Spain and the wine list is extensive. I was really excited about this dinner, but the food is just not up to standard. Not an authentic tapas restaurant. The ibérico gran reserva ham and the cheese board were covered in olive oil. Basically all tasted the same being the taste of the oil so overpowering. When I asked why the ham and cheese had olive oil on them the quick response was, this is something they sometimes do. I wanted to ask who was "they" but I guessed the Spanish and obviously this is not the case in Spain. I was asked if I wanted to send the boards back and I said yes. I was expecting the boards to be remade without the oil but this has not been the case. Noone checked in with us and that was it. We kept the bread as we really believed the cured meats and cheese would have been brought again to us. We did not touch the bread as we had no ham or cheese in the end but we got charged for it. I did not argue as minimal cost. The croquettes were nice to be fair but the tortilla was hard and dry and lukewarm on the outside and cold in the middle. So much potential not delivered by this place unfortunately. Good customer service goes a long way.

In 4 days in Buxton this was the only disappoining place everywhere else great service and...

Unfortunately an incredibly disappointing experience from start to finish. We attended for an early dinner on Saturday (reservation around 1745) and the restaurant was completely packed which I thought was a good sign... First of all, it was impossible to get someone to take our order after a bit of a wait and had to try and stop a few members of staff. Then we noticed the plates on the table were not clean and had food debris on them. They were replaced but no apology and barely any communication from the young waiter. Food came out very quickly but all dishes were pretty disappointing, not authentic tapas at all. Most disappointing was the tortilla which is a classic tapas dish, described as 'slow cooked'... It arrived cold and hard with no flavour. We asked about this and were told 'due to UK law egg cannot be heated' which can only mean that it is not in fact slow cooked in house. Throughout the meal, it was impossible to get the waiters' attention, the manager however came past to ask how our meal was and before we could even answer she had walked away! Which was worse than not asking at all. Again it was impossible to gain our bill from the busy staff who never looked up from serving dishes to check on other guests. Unfortunately we were completely disappointed and feel if a little bit of effort went into the service, this could have made a big difference.

What a mistake and sooo undeserving of business. Joder, WoW k malo/what a disappointment and a half! **/***** Avoid if you have any clue what Spanish food should only taste like. I am Spanish having lived since birth in Miami, Florida until moving to my family’s home in Spain. The ONLY three fantastic things worth a mention at Santiago’s are the icy tap water provided alongside our wine (tastiest tap water we have ever tried), the decor and the croquetas which are among the tastiest I have ever tried in any country en todo el mundo. Santiago’s Buxton are a poorest representation of what makes Spain a blessed place to dine and enjoy yourself. Entering the restaurant and we were taken aback by the impeccably decorated space. ZERO Spanish music to lift one’s spirit, absolutely ZERO atmosphere, the ambience of a derelict retirement home in Bosnia, not one Spanish speaker anywhere and a dining room filled with miserable faces. I thought like a moron that Santiago’s Buxton was the ticket to success. This is why the age old expression “don’t think”, exists. Our Gambas Aioli (Pil Pil) were cheapest quality shrimp drowning in flavourless, garlic-less water. The Albondigas were harder beef balls sitting atop canned tomato sauce, the tortilla had as much flavour as a shelled boiled egg and the list really goes on. AVOID this fakest news is my most honest advice.
