Our favourite fish and chips!

Whenever we have fish and chips, we always come back to the Escalade fish bar. The owner and staff there are very friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The place is very clean and modern looking inside.

Their food is always freshly made. The thing that is very important to me is that the oil the food is cooked in is changed on a very regular basis. If you’ve been to a chippy that doesn’t change their oil often you can taste it! Thankfully here they frequently change their oil.

They make their own tartar sauce and it’s so delicious that my brother and I always get quite a few pots, that’s how good it is!

The price is very reasonable in my opinion. I have heard some people say that this place is slightly more expensive, but I have to say it’s worth every penny as they make things fresh all the time!

I like how their carrier bags are paper ones as this is environmentally friendly. I know we cannot completely avoid plastic use but the fact that effort is being made to be a little environmentally conscious it’s a...

Tried as the estamblished chippy next door had just closed, 8pm so fair enough. You want to dislike this place for opening next door to a chippy, but hard to argue with the quality of food. Ordered Cod and chips with mushy peas. Fish was fantastic. Absolutely huge and good value given all fish prices are high, £7.50 Cod, £10.50 Cod and chips. Batter is slightly firmer looking but not stodgey and light to eat, fish was perfectly cooked and juicey (not many get this right), skin on thick Cod fillet, maybe 35cm long! Comes with home made tartar sauce and lemon, which was great and very fresh. Peas great too. This will be our new first choice chippy.

Only note would be it's probably a tiny bit cheaper to order 2 Cod and 1 large chips vs 2 combos, but if you are eating on the beach, save yourself the hassle. Fish is huge so you won't want...

Visited on 11th April for the first time (still trying to find a good light crispy batter, if you get this right customers will be queing out the door. I'm sad to say the batter yesterday was brown on the outside yes, but too thick to be cooked and soggy like pudding underneath and sticks to the fish 😏 it's a shame because you have a very clean and presentable fish Bar in a prime location good staff and great service !! ☺️ But your batter is too thick ! It needs less flour more water (no milk) and plenty of whisking to get the air into It to make it crispy , then just a dip and let the excess drain off. Just my Northern opinion 🤔 where crispy batter means the difference between a good batter or a pudding batter. I know getting the batter right is not easy but when it's right...

(Possibly) the best fish & chips on the island. We ate from here on the last night of our stay and were so pleased that we did. Lovely chunky cod, cooked perfectly and a generous portion of chips to go with it; even packaged with the niceties of tartar sauce and a lemon wedge something many places have forgotten. It says a lot when you walk from the shop to the seafront to find a bench and pass so many other people doing the same thing and eating from the same place!

Absolutely splendid. Stopped in for a seriously needed refuel after we had ridden around the island. Fish some of the best I've had, light crispy batter, not at all greasy, fish inside cooked but still moist and flakey. Chips good and big servings of mushy peas. I suppose some people might not like paper plates and wooden utensils, but those are ultimately more hygenic anyway, was absolutely fine for us. (portions in picture already partially eaten!)
