Not usually one for writing negative reviews on restaurants because I understand everyone has a different experience, but Al forno Liverpool would be getting zero stars today if possible. First and foremost through our entire dining experience the waiters never spoke a word, yes that's correct not a single word. I had to ask for drinks at the start, I had to ask to make a order of food. We had to ask for more drinks after our drinks had been empty a good 10-15 mins (restaurant was empty). I ordered risotto which in the description said tomato and cream sauce and nothing about meat/fish. However lobster was apparently written in Italian. Am a scouser born and bread, failed French in school and even my English grammar is not the best. How on earth am I gonna know that was lobster? The garlic bread I ripped in front of the manager at the end as it was that hard, the managers response was that's how we make garlic bread in Italy Hahaha, stop it the local Italian pizza shop with 3* review on trip advisor does a better free garlic bread when ya spend £15, jaws wouldnt have been able to eat that even if you dipped it in chum. Then I showed him me trying to cut a piece of burnt bread with a knife which wasn't possible, again his pathetic response was 'sorry you didn't like it,' nothing to like pablo and I would like to keep my teeth. The wagyu steak was mediocre, the garlic roasties had what looked like the scraps at the bottom of the pan in them, the cabonara was ok at best, but was edible even though it was dipped Into a cheese wheel which probably had about 100 other meals dipped into it this week. It was my girls son's 18th birthday and everything was that bad we walked out before the free birthday dessert came (probably would have thrown it in that cheese wheel before it was served anyway). Also a shell was in the steak and a fly floating around the table which I understand was not the restaurants fault. When telling the manager about the abysmal service and no one actually speaking to us. His response was maybe they didn't want to talk to you. Just wow. They deducted the cost of 2 meals and then added 10% service charge without asking. You should have been tipping me because I done all the waiting. This is 100% the worst restaurant for food and service i have ever experienced in my life, anywhere I have been in the world including Egypt. Al forno you ruined a 18 year olds birthday meal and you should be ashamed of your service and yourselves. Top tip for you, use waiters that can speak English when working in a English speaking city center. As i said previously everyone has a different experience, luckily we ended up laughing about it at home and made some chicken bakes in the oven from costco. Winner winner chicken dinner. I hope you can learn from this review and better yourself and your team. P.s feed them anorexic lobsters for god sake, never had a lobster but I am sure they come with some form of meat on them somewhere. Unless they...
Read moreIl Forno is a gorgeous Italian restaurant and easily one of the best that Liverpool has to offer. It is always very busy and it's easy to see (taste?) why.
First off: book a table. It's packed on a regular basis, even popular with celebrities. Not that I care about that sort of thing, but it does mean you'll need to reserve your place. This doesn't mean it's cold and sterile though - the atmosphere is very welcoming, warm and relaxed.
Now that that's out of the way and you're in the restaurant, the menu lights up your eyes. There is a wide range of delicious, authentic, Italian dishes to choose from. For starters, why not have Bruschetta Piselli e Mozzarella Parmigiano (Baked bread with garden peas, mozarella and parmesan), or Focaccia with salt, rosemary and extra virgin olive oil?
The menu goes from strength to strength, featuring delicious soups and a HUGE range of antipasti. These are all an excellent choice and, in my eyes, they're so good that they're often one of the main highlights of the meal. I cannot stress enough just how nice the antipasti selections are - you could quite easily sit and just munch your way through these all evening.
The main dishes are made up of winner after winner. Homemade pasta is combined with sun dried tomatoes, pine kernels and anchovies. Risotto accompanied with pumpkin, pancetta and parmesan. The Penne All'Arrabbiata is breathtaking and you can add tasty, fresh, Italian sausage.
Even the pizzas here are phenomenal. Thin and cooked in a traditional oven, they have that Italian 'essence' that is often missing from pizzas elsewhere. A favourite of mine is the Pizza Il Forno, featuring buffalo mozzarella, spicy salami, porcini mushrooms, grated potato, parmesan and rosemary. The Calzones are equallly as good.
There are lovely desserts too. The whole range seems good but I'm always drawn to one of my most favourite dishes of all - Tiramisu. Real, proper, tadty, Tiramisu. Unbeatable.
I have no REAL negative points for this restaurant. It's expensive, so you could include that... but if you are aware of this beforehand and know what to expect, you'll soon realise that this place is well worth every extra penny you'll spend. It's a kind of posh-rustic restaurant, an interesting combination.
The service here is great, everybody is friendly, chatty and helpful. They aren't too quick about things, which fits the Italian eating vibe perfectly. Don't come here for a quick bite, expect to stay quite a while... but you'll enjoy every second, every morsel. Highly...
Read moreAmericans- beware, you aren't welcome at this restaurant. Overpriced food, poor quality, clear discrimination from staff, and rude customers that yelled at employees from other restaraunts.
My friend and I are traveling throughout Ireland and the UK and this was by far the worst dining experience yet. We saw this place while out walking and it looked super cute so we decided to try it out on a whim. Our first mistake was walking in and asking for a table for two. We were met with a nasty look from the manager who asked if we had a reservation. We said no and asked if we needed one, ready to leave if we did need a reservation because we didnt want to be difficult. The manager rolled his eyes and sat us outside despite the fact there were several tables inside. This was fine until he sat us in the furthest corner possible with the ash tray... while people were cleaning the outside area with a pressure washer.
We should have left, but we didn't. We were already sat and, again, didn't want to cause unnecessary drama. We sat down and ordered a starter of Cestino di Pane which included focaccia. The dish we got had no focaccia. The bread was also stale and incredibly thick to get through.
It is at this point a customer starts yelling (grown man and balding btw) at an employee from another restaurant who is trying to clean the concrete. He's nearly done when this rude man starts berating him for being rude despite the fact he is just trying to do his job. My friend and I are the ones seated closest to the cleaner and we did not have nearly as much of a problem with it as he did.
Starter done and rude customer having left, we really should have just left at this point but dinner was on the way. We received unseasoned and off textured shrimp and a lasagna that truly did look microwaved at best.
The bill? 75 pound. We left and swore never to come back. I never write reviews, but this place was so bad I felt I should warn fellow travelers.
Yes, we are American. No, we are not loud, rude, or obnoxious. Yes, we are very aware of American stereotypes and the state of our country but that is not reflective of every individual. All we wanted was some good Italian food... which apparently is a crime here if you happen to have an...
