I was looking forward to trying out this place since I seen a review on 'The Scouse Ghetto Gourmet', on instagram. Being close to the Philharmonic it was convenient as we had a show booked New Years eve. I wanted to try items that was in the review but had trouble finding them. There was the meat Dosa which I ordered, which was in the review. There was no south Indian part of the menu which was shown in the review so I picked a lamb curry from the menu. My partner picked butterfly prawn dish for starters. It was the only prawn starters on the menu so assumed it must be the one he had on the review. When it came out it was nothing like the dish in the review. It was no description to say what it was breaded prawns which it was. Served with salad and no dipping sauce or dressing it was dry and tasteless. I enjoyed my meat dosa and was looking forward to the main. The atmosphere in venue was quiet as it was early about 5pm. About 4-5 of the staff had there backs to us congregating at the bar chatting. This continued throughout our meal. The restaurant was very cold and had to wear my coat throughout my time there. I went the toilet to wash my hands and there was no hot water either. So I assume the chef and staff have to also wash their hands in cold water too? We waited for our main for a very long time and was concerned on the time as we had a show booked. There was two couples who ordered the same time as us and had all ready eaten and left. The staff had no concern that we was waiting a long time and was still standing at the bar with no interest to their customers. Not once on both starters and main meals did they ask if everything was alright with our food. The restaurant was relatively empty and the staff looked like they had nothing to do but to stand at the bar. Then finally someone walked over and asked if we had had our main. It finally come out to great disappointment. The curries were tasteless and the lamb was tough. The chips we ordered came piled on a plate, awful presentation. My local takeaway could do better, restaurant standard not at all. The waiter was surprised to see we left most of our food. My partner said in politeness we was just full but ended up leaving hungry and paying £73.00 for it. I have never had to write a review before but this needed to be said. Its a shame as the food in the review looked delicious but was like a totally different menu done by and different chef? Hope there will be some...
Read moreTLDR: FED CHICKEN TO A VEGETARIAN, AND BASICALLY DIDN'T APOLOGISE. AWFUL SERVICE. CURRIES WERE AWFULLY SWEET. AVOID.
Friday evening around 7pm for my partner's Birthday meal. We were worried about if we should have booked in advance, that wasn't an issue, there was only 1 other table(alarm bell 1). Initially, the first server was a gentleman(aged maybe between 25-35, medium build, dark hair), and everything you would expect a server to be, so we were like "okay, maybe it's just a quiet night.."
We proceeded to order, and since I was trying curries I wasn't used to, I asked if it was definitely vegetarian? Of which, he assured me it was, great.
Starters arrive, they're okay. Nothing particularly out of this world, but they're okay... But then the mains arrive by a different server (age, maybe 50+, glasses, potentially Indian), virtually slams the plates down, and scurries off. Weird(alarm bell 2). I started by dipping my naan in the curry, which was ridiculously sweet (alarm bell 3). I go to take my first bite of the curry, only to immediately spit it back out. It was chicken(alarm bell 4). I called the older server over (He was closest) and stated politely that I had ordered Paneer(cheese) as I'm vegetarian. There was no apology, he just grabbed the plate forcefully and said "I'll get that changed" and ran off, like I'd just spat in his face(alarm bell 5). I was gobsmacked, I called over the nice server, and said not to bother replacing it after that display. The nice server came back, apologised, and said the chef had made a mistake.
It then came to the bill, at which point, the older server brought it over highlighting the fact that the curry I HADN'T ORDERED had been taken off the bill(alarm bell 6), as though he was doing me a favour. No additional apology provided.
As someone who's been in the service industry for 10+ years myself, disgusting...
