Like most restaurants you try for the first time, there is always the standard dish you order to test the quality of the cuisine. In dimsum, it's Ha Gau the shrimp dumpling. The first visual check is the balance of transparency of the skin and the firmness and strength to hold its contents. Then the texture , flavour depth of shrimp and aroma. It was pretty average, but it wasn't during dimsum peak time as I went in the evening. Maybe different batch different time, but forgivable.
The main was the roast. The crispy pork and roasted duck are the 2nd tester of any restaurant that offers roasts (I don't really like char siu roasts with rice). The crispy pork skin was compact and crispy, duck was succulent, and I was given the correct type of soy sauce and extra with it. Duck was great didn't get any wing or leg though, breast is just as great.
The service is great, accommodating and considerate of my needs, and checked in on at intervals. Offered me chilli oil before th thought even occurred to me (they have a mind reader). They checked if I wanted a Chinese or English menu, which was nice. Didn't mind getting me tap water with my meal and got oranges and fortune cookie at the end. In London we don't do this anymore.
Toilets looked refurbished and very clean, very important as I'm a germ freak. Also on TV was the TVB HK news channel was on which was...
Read moreTrued the place for the first time. Nice atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. The service was quick but maybe because the place seems newly opened it was too crowded when I was visiting there. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The service was quick. I've tried their special fried rice and salt & pepper squid. The salt and pepper squid was out of this world. With the onion, chili, spring onion and other ingredients, the taste of it was mind blowing. It had an almost similar taste to the asian squid based dish called "hot butter cuttlefish" which I would even die for 😜. However, I have asked the lady who served me to make the rice extra extra spicy but instead of making the rice itself spicy, she got me a separate small cup of chili oil which was a bit disappointing and it felt like due to the rush, they are not trying to adhere to the special requests. Just sliding by sending a separate dish of chili oil which cannot make the dish spicy in the correct way. Apart from that, the portion sizes are on point. I recommend this place for the people who seek delicious chinese food but not recommend if you are looking for spicy chinese food. The food is delicious. Really good range of choices in the menu and also the prices are reasonable. Gonna visit again to try some other...
Read moreTrudging the streets of Liverpool on a cold night looking for a place to eat can be a difficult proposition. The streets are lively and the eateries are aplenty but by 9PM most places have finished taking their last order so one is left cold and hungry. Google suggested we go to China Town, so that is what we did and it was the best decision we could have made. There were a few eateries with OPEN signs and Man Tseun Ho's Restaurant was one of them. The entrance, decorated with artificial flowers looked specially welcoming on a dark and cold night. We found the staff exceptionally charming and motivated, going about their business with friendly smiles. We had a Whiskey Sour and a Lychee Pink Gin Fizz for cocktails. My friend and I decided to settle for just soups and a starter. My Sweet and Sour Soup was warm and delicious with a good amount of Pork and Shrimp in it. My friend had the Chicken Noodle Soup which was homely and comfort food at it's best. The soups were quite filling so we decided to settle for a single starter. The Pork and Shrimp Sui Mai was simply divine and the Chilli Oil served with it was excellent. Even though we happened upon this place by chance, I would recommend it highly, for the delicious food and the...
