I had a decent experience at North Garden, they've got pretty good food but there are a couple of things to be aware of. First, I'd recommend trying to book. This is because it's quite small and cramped in there, and five us turned up without warning on a Sunday evening. We had to wait a bit to get a table, and then the table we got was not big enough and it was in the way. They have some more seating upstairs, but I'm not sure if this is for private functions or what.
Second, they don't take cards of any kind. This is a larger inconvenience than you'd think because there are no cash machines in Chinatown- The closest one is at the Sainsbury's opposite St Luke's. If you've come prepared, good on you. If you haven't, it's about a 400yd round trip (200yds there, 200yds back) just to get a tenner, and by the time you're back around Bold St, you might as well just go somewhere closer that does take cards. It's a bit of an oddity in 2015, but there you have it
The staff was friendly enough and they knew the menu and were able to advise on what to try, etc. All in all it's a good shout if you're in the area or you have a craving, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there- As I rarely carry cash, that makes it a distinct second choice to...
Read moreWaitress was ignorant and very short with me and my parents. I went there after a christening and was not treated by there host eventually we were seated. By a sour faced Chinese lady who wouldn't piss on you if you was on fire. I have a very severe nut allergy when I asked the lady if what I had order was not friendly she said " probably not you will be ok". I felt inassured so I then changed my order, when the food arrivedbit was to a great standard however I asked her for some more napkins as we had a soup starter she then begrudgingly threw three napkins my way. I then asked the lady if she had a stuck up her ass. Which she didn't understand left the restaurant feeling full but unsatisfied with the level of service we...
Read moreI had hot and sour soup, sweet corn soup, roasted duck, sweet and sour vegetable, and egg fried rice. Hot and sour soup is really terrible, you'll have horrible sour taste but no hot at all, and I felt like eating heated red colour lemon juice. Sweet and sour mixed vegetable, mostly based on onion and carrot, and taste is terrible. I wonder whether they just put vegetables in ready made sweet and sour soup without tryimg to make the dish palatable. Rosted duck is not bad but if you had tried similar crusine in London China town, you would not try this again. Egg fried rice and sweet corn soup saved our meals- although it may not comparable with those I had in Singapore. Overall, the price I had given did not satisfied...
