I was very excited to try my first ever hot with my family and friends, sadly my first one was a bad one. It took a long time for us to be tended to after sitting down (know this there was a good 5 tables only and 2 of the tables were already finished eating and in total 3 people serving on the floor) when recieveing our hot pot meat/appetisers and soup we did notice we are missing quite a few, and waited patiently, however everyone was preoccupied. We were again not tended to for a long time, and about to stand up a waiter goes into the kitchen for our other dishes. No apologies for the long wait they just gave our missing meats and went off again. We were very unsure on how to even start on our meal. We did not have any utensils to help us with placing the meats and taking the meat out. As the waitress walks past we ask her for oils, and utensils and she aggressively says they are over there. I annoyingly said to her “we were not told it was here, and that their are no signs” she rudely walks off again. I tried to make excuses for her lack of waitressing and people skills, however I have worked in a restaurant myself and that behaviour can easily stop customers from ever returning. It was definitely uncalled for. We finally leave and see on our receipt (same waitress) that we are overcharged. We let her know that we did not purchase that, and she hurries to our table to make sure of it (understandable as she wants to check) however again she acts rudely and no apologies. She tosses the receipt to my auntie and takes the payment. We did not feel welcome. I do suggest if this is your FIRST hotpot, maybe go somewhere else. Not just with lack of customer service but also not worth the money. The meats we had were from frozen and I could taste the lamb in my beef slices, the soup was lacking flavour, we did finish most of it, only because we feared the hefty 15£ charge of not finishing each portion. I’m sure there are more welcoming places for Hotpot, I personally feel embarrassed taking my...
Read moreIf you’re after a proper, no-nonsense Chinese meal in Liverpool, Mr Chilli’s on Seel Street (just off Berry Street) is a solid choice. We ordered the Stewed Pangasius Fillet with Pickled Vegetable, (Pickled Vegetable Stewed Fish Fillet), Fried Bean Curd in Chilli Sauce, and Fried Soft Noodles — and it was one of the more satisfying meals I’ve had in a while.
The Stewed Pangasius Fillet was the highlight — a deep, savoury broth with just the right level of sourness from the pickled vegetables. The fish itself was tender and plentiful, and the broth had that addictive quality that kept us going back for more.
The Fried Bean Curd in Chilli Sauce was superb — silky tofu inside, crisp outside, bathed in a rich, spicy sauce that packed a good punch without being overwhelming. It paired really well with the fish and made the whole meal feel more substantial.
The Fried Soft Noodles were a good call as a side, soaking up all the flavours without being too greasy. They had a nice bit of wok char, which gave them a slightly smoky finish — very moreish.
Service was quick and efficient, with the focus clearly on delivering excellent food.
If you like your food properly spiced, generously portioned, and full of bold flavours, Mr Chilli’s on Seel Street is well worth a visit. I’d absolutely go back — next time, I might even brave one of their notorious extra...
Read morePlease Don't go! I went with 4 other my friend, when we call our waitress to order: I asked politely if it’s possible they can remove prawns from my fish dishes as I am allergic, she said something in different languages, I couldn’t understand so I asked if she could repeat. She started to raise her voice, shouting do you understand yes we can remove the prawns. I was shocked for what happened, and I thanked and waited for the food. The mussels were rubbery, the scallops were hard and overcooked (I like heat, but this was all heat and no flavor). The worst, part, however, was that we waited 60 minutes for just an appetiser: 2 portion of bang bang shredded chicken, 2 mixed Vegetables In Peppercorn Chilli Sauce (which was the only good part of the meal) and 90 minutes for the entries meal. Which was: 4 Egg fried rice( they gave small portion), 2 portion Hot & Spicy Mixed Seafood, 1 Hot Spicy Squid Sichuan Style and Stewed Beef with Potato What a shame from waiting we had already lost our appetite. But what we experienced was an establishment ready for kitchen nightmares. Since we couldn't eat...
