OK, where do I start? Like the Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy once said, 'All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.' This bonfire bun, photo attached, is a happy family of flavours in its own way, and itā€™s very unhappy that I cannot have more than one today. I should not have more than one today. I will try not to have more than one today. And I will probably fail. Vibe and music and service are great too. The food on display is also looking really, really delicious, although right now I think I am magnetically drawn to yet another bun. Iā€™ll be back

This new cafe is a little gem. Such a friendly place & very accommodating of my need to eat gluten free - I couldnā€™t choose so had fritters & a Dahl!! So many lovely food options - light lunches, breakfast, cakes, pastries. Please give it a try & letā€™s help them thrive in our community.

Food: pretty good I must say! Good varied choices of savoury and sweets. I havenā€™t tried the coffee there yet.

Music: thats the main problem with this place and why I only give it a 3/5 for now. Music is super annoying, distracting and slightly depressing. Cheesy latino playlist with recurring moments of fadoā€¦ they really can easily do better here.

Staff: nice people whoseā€™s even correcting an eventual mistake without you even saying anything. Thatā€™s great. They could be a bit warmer at first. A smile to welcome customers goes a long way!

The space: amazing, loads of light and super high ceilings.

The decoration: ok, a lot of grey. Maybe not a great choice for the bar counter (dark grey). Original furnitures they inherited from before are cool. New stools with dark wood are out of place but ok. Not the best illustration on walls neither. Nice sound system matching existing furnitures!

119 coffee was possibly the coolest cafe in hackney from 2014 to 2020. Super happy the place re-opened into another cafe. Loads of potential just need to level up the vibe really and bring more youth to the direction. Start with asking a tasteful local dj / curator to curate the playlists for you and it be possibly already...
