Such a lovely dining place. Took me back to some fond travel memories.

Randomly passed it as we were heading to another eatery. But decided to dine here instead.

Delicious food, fresh made, good service, and a great ambience like the good old days, and none of this overbearing mood lighting and flower power. They focus on the right thing... great quality authentic Afghan food that hits all the spots. Prices are so decent for London and the huge food portions took us by surprise.

Kabuli pilao needed a little more flavour, but was still yummy, with tender lamb. Chapali kebabs were the best I've eaten, and samosas were absolutely delicious.

They were making a fresh huge kabuli pilao. Was just lovely to see such a traditional dish being prepped at the front in a huge pan and custom clay pit.

All employees are humble, friendly and respectful.

Place filled up very quickly once we arrived, which is always a testament to the food quality.

Toilet needs some attention.

Also think the price of their lamb karahi is extortionate and not a good fit for the type of eatery it is, and doesn't make sense with the pricing of the rest of their menu. I hope they reconsider this and offer smaller portions and prices for one person to order. We didn't order it because price really didn't make sense. I've been to afghan restaurants where it is not priced as high.

Service was slow when it started to fill up.

Would highly recommend a visit to this eatery. We would absolutely revisit. They also have a raised flat traditional seating area, which looks fun. Great for bigger parties with no knee issues (".)

Thank you for such a lovely experience, delicious food and...

First time at Afghan Grill with my family. Restaurant was nice and small, however 1st disappointment, we were given DIRTY knife and forks, so had to ask to give clean ones.

We ordered Kabuli Pilao, Mixed Grill, Chips and drinks. Mixed Grill was was TASTELESS. 2nd disappointment Kabuli Pilao had a long piece of HAIR in it. We ate about a quarter of it and then found the DISGUSTING HAIR and we couldn’t finish off our whole meal. We showed the hair to a waiter who took it and showed it to the chef. They didn’t do anything about it and kept us waiting and wasting our time. We got fed up so asked for our billed and they charged us full price for everything despite finding a hair, which was 3rd disappointment. They didn’t even offer to replace our dish or even give a discount. As we were not happy to pay for full price as almost 3/4 of our meal was left we asked for discount so they charged half price for Kabuli Pilao.

However, they then said ONLY CASH, 4th disappointment. We obviously had no cash and said we saw the machine for card payments as we sat in front of the till machine and saw numerous people paying with card. They LIED, 5th disappointment and said machine is not working and to do bank transfer. Us and another customer then did BANK TRANSFER and left, which was 6th and final disappointment.

AFGHAN GRILL VERY POOR SERVICE, CHEFS DO NOT WEAR CAPS AND HAIR IN FOOD, DIRTY CUTLERY, CASH ONLY AND BANK TRANSFER…THEY LIE ABOUT CARD PAYMENTS.

PLEASE AVOID IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE...

Afghan Grill in Bethnal Green is a culinary gem that offers an authentic Afghan dining experience. Despite its modest exterior, the restaurant’s warm and inviting atmosphere quickly dispels any initial reservations.

Food Quality: The grilled dishes are exceptional, bursting with rich flavors. The 1.5kg lamb karahi, accompanied by generous naan bread, is a standout, offering tender meat in a savory sauce. The rice is light and aromatic, complementing the mains perfectly. For spice enthusiasts, the green chilies on the side add a delightful kick.

Service: The staff are friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. Their recommendations cater to both newcomers and regular patrons, ensuring a satisfying meal for all.

Ambiance: The decor is simple yet cozy, creating a comfortable environment for diners. The bustling atmosphere reflects its popularity among locals and visitors alike.

Value for Money: With reasonable pricing, dining at Afghan Grill is both enjoyable and affordable. A group of eight can dine, including drinks, for approximately £20 per person, making it an excellent choice for gatherings.

In summary, Afghan Grill offers a delightful dining experience with its flavorful cuisine, welcoming staff, and pleasant ambiance. It’s a must-visit for those seeking authentic Afghan...

I was very excited to go here and I hauled my team to try it too… 22 mins of walking in the blistering cold. I was blown away by some of the dishes, but disappointed in others. The borani badenjoon was excellent. This was by far the best thing we tried. For me personally, the kabuli pilao was the second best thing. While it was great, the borani was so much better. The kabuli pilao had a nice strong lamb flavour and well spiced rice. The mantu was a bit disappointing to me but I think its because I wasnt expecting the spice profile. It had too much dried mint (abd I think something else too though I couldnt tell what it was). The filling itself and the dough were good tho! The naan was perfectly soft, but it lacked salt imo. Otherwise it’d have been perfect. The chapli kebab was dry and flavourless. By far the most disappointing. The house salad and house dal were good. We also got baklava. This is more like an Iranian style baklava as opposed to turkish style. Imo this was excellent. Portions here are decent.

Really nice new restaurant that I hope to visit again. This restaurant serves Afghan cuisine at its finest; all the fragrances and complexities combine to forge a heartwarming sense of authenticity. My choice, the Chicken Biryani, was one of the best I've EVER eaten, anywhere. Prices might look high-ish, but trust me it is value-for-money; the portions are huge! We left the place feeling so full and satisfied. It is sad that half the menu has been crossed out; even though so many things that looked good on the menu had been taped over, even some of the non-taped items were not available. Having looked forward for a while to the opening of this restaurant, seeing the menu online and preparing, we were unfortunately dissapointed by this. I wish they would make a new menu, or just do something to tackle this problem. I look forward to visiting again and experiencing more of the great foods that were promised on the menu (but were all either not available or seemed to have run out).
