A real let down for a 5* hotel. I will explain all the points as to why you should NOT book the afternoon tea. The food was SO disappointing and does not match the description on the menu - the sandwiches were lacklustre, the cheese and tomato one was very salty, the cream cheese and cucumber had no dill in it so it was very flavourless. The egg mayonnaise one had no seasoning so also lacked flavour. The grilled vegetables were just aubergine and courgette so just tasted of pesto. The chocolate scone and peanut butter cup was one of the only nice things that I enjoyed eating. Now the desserts look pretty, but again so disappointing. The drumstick macaron barely tasted of raspberry or anything like a drumstick sweet. The apple and pecan pie was stale! Dry as sand (see picture, I took it home for my sister to try and she said the same). The rhubarb and custard choux bun was also stale and tasted eggy so wasn't pleasant. The servers were lovely and polite, however, it wasn't busy when we visited on a Monday afternoon so there was no excuse for getting simple orders wrong twice. One of the servers came over to our table whilst my boyfriend had gone to the bathroom and asked if it was his birthday today, and I replied saying it's mine so she asked for my name and wrote it down on a little notepad. Despite waiting before they handed the bill, and after paying the bill (around 20mins), they forgot to bring out anything for my birthday. As we were leaving my boyfriend asked about this and they did apologise and hurriedly brought out the tiniest (and again stale) cupcake for me and said I can put it in the takeaway box. I also found a white hair in one of the sandwiches that I took for my sister to try as she's always been intrigued about the afternoon tea (see picture attached) which put her off completely.
Overall, it is overpriced and overhyped. For a 5 star hotel, and the price point, it is absolutely not worth it. Compared to other afternoon teas where there is live music and tastier, better quality food, this one has let me down massively. I did send an email about all of this and the best they came back with is 'to extend a 25% reduction and complimentary glass of Champagne per person.' for my next visit which will never...
Read moreI had the pleasure of enjoying the Halal Afternoon Tea at The Chesterfield Mayfair, and it was truly an experience to remember.
Tucked away in the heart of Mayfair, The Chesterfield is a charming gem that blends classic British elegance with warm hospitality. The décor is timeless, think plush armchairs, crisp linens, and vintage tea sets, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed yet luxurious afternoon.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth. A special thank you to Tamara and Alexa, who delivered outstanding service throughout. They were attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, ensuring our every need was met and that our halal dietary preferences were fully catered for without compromising on flavour or variety.
The Halal Afternoon Tea itself was exquisite. We started with a beautifully arranged selection of savoury finger sandwiches, each one fresh and flavourful. The warm scones, both plain and fruit, were perfectly baked and served with generous helpings of clotted cream and strawberry preserve.
The real stars, however, were the delicate pastries and sweet treats. From rich chocolate delights to elegant fruit-based creations, every piece was immaculately presented and a joy to eat. The tea menu offered a wonderful variety, with something to suit every palate, served in charming mismatched china that added to the experience.
And don’t forget, before you leave, be sure to visit the Sweetie Trolley! It’s a delightful touch that brings out your inner child, offering a selection of nostalgic treats to take home. It’s the perfect way to end your visit on a sweet note.
It’s rare to find a halal afternoon tea experience that feels this special and inclusive. The Chesterfield Mayfair not only delivers on quality and service but goes above and beyond to create a memorable, heartwarming experience. Highly recommended and I’ll definitely...
Read moreMy friend and I had a wonderful time! The service was extremely polished, the food and tea was wonderful. We were the last booking for tea and we had been looking forward to the experience all day. When you book you can request a vegetarian option which is perfect, great selection of sandwiches. Our favorite was the sundried tomato and goat cheese.
One thing to keep in mind is that the pots of tea hold about 5 cup's worth, and had I known I would have not selected the lapsang Souchong as it gains more and more strength as it steps, and I could not drink quickly enough, or even finish the last cup. What I was hoping for was a small pot of tea to be able to try different types of tea to enjoy pairing with the flavors of the food. Another unfortunate aspect of the experience was that our server disappeared and never came back. We had to flag two other servers from a different part of the dining room and even then it was hard to get anyone to notice when we were ready to pay it needed something. When we were first seated we were offered extra of anything, and we did want an additional sun-dried tomato goat cheese sandwich, but as we couldn't find anyone to help we did not receive it. I understand it was an odd time of day and we were the only ones in that particular part, but many times servers walked past us to go to the bar or back to the dining room. I would have expected better in this aspect from this hotel, but I would not be deterred from returning since the food was good.
Overall it was a very nice evening out, but to give 5 stars I would like more...
