Of all the dining experiences we have ever had in our lives, never have we encountered service as utterly appalling as what we endured at Com Viet. This was, without a single doubt, the worst service we have ever received.
Our evening was ruined from the moment we were seated. At a table directly next to us, an infant began screaming at an unbearably piercing, high-decibel level. While we understand children can be unpredictable, my friend has a serious heart condition and is extremely sensitive to sharp, sudden noises. This wasn't merely an inconvenience; it was a genuine health concern.
We approached the manager, a man named Emmanuel, and explained the situation. We weren't asking for the moon—just a simple table reassignment to a quieter section of the restaurant. Instead of showing empathy or professionalism, Emmanuel responded with a level of condescension and indifference that left us stunned. He said to my unwell friend "You were also a baby once," before simply turning his back and walking away.
We were absolutely speechless. Trying to move past this shocking interaction, we decided to stay and opened our menus to order. Suddenly, Emmanuel marched back over to our table. Without a hint of apology or a desire to resolve the situation, he issued an ultimatum: if we were not happy with the table, we could "just leave."
We were never given a chance to be customers. We were never treated with even basic human decency. The sheer arrogance and blatant disregard for a customer’s well-being displayed by this manager, Emmanuel, is unparalleled. We have never, ever been made to feel so unwelcome and disrespected in a place of business. Avoid this place at all costs unless you want to be subjected to the worst managerial...
Read moreAs a Vietnamese native, I don't often go out to eat Vietnamese food as the kitchen of mum & dad will always trump any restaurant offerings. On the occasions when my parents are either away or there's too big a gap when they would bring me food... Com Viet has been my home from home for the previous 10 years when my friends or I crave Vietnamese food. The starters they offer are very diverse and offer you probably the best 'street food' experience of all the Vietnamese restaurants I have tried. I would highly recommend the beef in betel leaf, the grilled quail and the 'Com Viet' Cha, add to that the Papaya or the Mango salad and you have yourself a great meal. If you're extra hungry the Pho or Bun Bo Hue are both delicious. Often in Vietnamese cuisine it is about how well the ingredients are cooked, but it also how good the pairing condiments go with it. Com Viet's Nuoc Mam dipping sauce is on point and it is used so often in Vietnamese dishes that it is the most vital condiment, and they get it right here. It balances sweet, savoury, sour, spicy and umami, all the elements that Vietnamese cuisine tries to balance out so that no one element overpowers the others. For the grilled quail, they serve this with a salt, lemon, lime & chilli dip - it is how it would be served at a streetfood stall in Vietnam. These small details are what keeps me and my friends coming back. The staff here are all wonderfully friendly and always make you feel welcome. For the price and the quality of the food, you can't beat this restaurant if you want great Vietnamese food. Give it a try, you...
Read moreLondon is currently in Tier 2 where two families are allowed to meet outside but not mix indoors. As my partner and I are travelling over Christmas we booked two tables so that even though we weren't able to sit and converse we could enjoy sitting in the same space with his sister and her family. The request for two tables was made and countless unanswered calls to the restaurant - we assumed it was fine as we were within the rules. Our two families met outside the restaurant and were told by the manager that we were not allowed to come in as we had been "mixing". We showed him the rules, explained that our kids were hungry and all we wanted was to sit in our family units and have dinner. Nonetheless, nothing worked and he refused to listen to anything I or my partner had to say. Shocked by his response to us and inability to provide any valid reason for prohibiting our admittance to this restaurant I am left with the only explanation that it was racial discrimination. This is my first review on this platform and I write this to warn black persons of the horrible treatment that is possible at this...
