Disgraceful Cafe design, layout furnishings. Dillon's bookstore, a Famous bookstore, now a branch of Waterstones bookstore has an untidy inappropriate setup cafe on ground floor.
Tables wobble and look cheap.
Cramped.
People stay too long more than they need in this limited space.
The space needs reinventing redesigning and operation rules..time and placement!
Please don't let this be the first and last impression for customers from this famous London book store at the Heart of University of London.
The bookstore selection itself is excellent, but can be improved. I suppose space is the problem.
However, If a person wishes to buy a lot of books, say a dozen, from a specific floor, I think it best a till should be opened on the floor to allow that purchase, otherwise it's difficult to take all the books to the ground floor via so many steps. I know there are lifts, but they're hidden not well sign posted. Instead we have staff saying please take all your 16 books to the ground floor to pay, instead of opening a till right in front of me on the Nth floor.
There is still a snobbery amongst some books till staff. They should always be welcoming, and the voice and manner and attitude and professionalism should always reflect, and they must remember the history and reputation of this bookstore. The place is visited by people nationwide and worldwide.
Every section is good. Children's, educational school subjects and University subjects, foreign languages, English, fiction of all ages, science, history, maths, finance, law, medicine, health,...every subject probably.

There are other café and restaurants very nearby. If Dillon's Coffee can't meet the task, then at least for the bookstore's good reputation and customers, direct them to...
Read moreSo disappointed in Dillon's... I used to come here all the time last year to get Avocado Toast and/or hot chocolate but they've completely changed the menu and system. When I could FINALLY get hold of an avocado toast after popping in sporadically for 7 weeks (they had always run out), it ended up being a "pre-made" avocado smash (they have a bowl of smashed avocado sitting out that they use), with a few onions and chopped tomatoes. The avocado tasted slightly off from sitting out even though it was early in the day, and they no longer served the toast with the option of chilli oil, nor do they have chilli oil in the cafe. Al this and it is now more expensive at £4.90, and only offers a 5% student discount with a specific waterstones card which you have to obtain (for free). WORSE than that, I just went back, resigned to the higher price and lower quality meal, simply because it's so close and convenient, and this time I was served the avocado smash haphazardly spread between two slices of bread, with about 4 WHOLE cherry tomatoes inside. Not sliced at all. These aren't even small plum tomatoes which are somewhat edible whole. These are quite hefty cherry tomatoes shoved in the middle. and NO ONIONS this time. When I order and pay for something I've had in the past, I expect to receive the same meal. Not to receive no onions, unsliced tomatoes, and the sandwich shoved into a box too small to fit it (last time it was served as two open faced slices, each cut into 4, and layered into the box, which was at least more manageable). Very...
Read moreSome of the worst coffee I've ever had. So bitter and burnt. The prices seem cheaper than other places but the sizes are much smaller. My flat white was £3.15 but the size of a cortado. The coffee to milk ratio was completely wrong. The queues are very long and at peak morning time there were only 2 people working there. It's also not efficiently designed as you have a queue for ordering then you have to wait awkwardly in an area where people are coming and going to collect your drink/food and some people go to find a table first which then causes confusion when the drink order is called out as they aren't there to collect it. There is lots of seating available but the place is so noisy you couldn't possibly sit down and do any work. Also the chairs are uncomfortable. Tables aren't cleared or cleaned regularly. Signs absolutely everywhere telling you to mind your belongings so I imagine theft is...
