I decided to come to down to Earth today, as I am a local resident and have heard many good reviews about this restaurant, but my experience has been far less than satisfactory.
It is very obvious that they have a predominantly white clientele and being a black, female customer, I noticed a stark difference in treatment between myself and the other customers.
When I arrived, I was seated for nearly 10 minutes and was not offered a menu nor a glass of water and so had to collect one for myself. I was sitting in clear sight of the counter and the waitress acknowledged where I was seated when I went up to place my order, as no one came to take it, confirming my assumption that I was quite frankly being ignored. I found it quite upsetting that a couple who arrived after me were attended to directly after they sat down, while I was still standing, waiting to order.
I also didn’t appreciate the fact that three different members of staff looked at me and did not communicate with me, even while standing in front of them, until I addressed them first.
How shameful that another person wrote a review of a similar nature just a week ago. If this is the workspace culture of this restaurant, I would tell any person of colour to refrain from coming here.

Read moreI had a really disappointing experience at Down to Earth. When I arrived, it wasn’t clear where the queue started as part of it goes around the corner. I stood waiting patiently, but when another customer came from a different direction, it created confusion. When I tried to order, I felt like I was being treated as if I had pushed in, even though I had been waiting.
The barista’s response made me feel overlooked and uncomfortable. What stood out even more was that I noticed them giving friendly and attentive service to other customers, but with me, there was no warmth or acknowledgment. As a Black woman, I left feeling unwelcome, which was upsetting.
Clarity in how customers are served and consistency in how everyone is treated would make a huge difference. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling singled out and I won’t be...

I had a lovely brunch with my Sister.
Besides the food tasting so good. I love the vibrant colours and textures each dish has. Makes the meal look inviting.
They serve the best sweet potato fries. But I have it 4/5 stars because i am yet to try the baked goods.
Also they have free wi-fi and power sockets for laptops by the bench sofa cushions.
They have indoor sitting that extends outside I have given the atmosphere rating one less star because the building next door is going through some renovations and the blinds used don’t fully block this off so it’s not a very appealing view...
