Happy Lamb Hotpot makes happy humans.
I had never been to a hotpot place like this before so was excited and probably over ordered, but I was keen to try lots of the things. I was recommended the place by people in the know, and it was a fun and enjoyable dining experience, was great value for money and I am definitely going back.
We went for the two broth option, one non-spicy and one spicy and think this is the go, although by the end - everything was a bit of a combo. The servers were friendly and the food arrives fast. The menu has indicative times for the different items to spend in the broth. Tips for beginners like me, use the spoons provided to keep track of some of the things you add the broth so it is easy to find and retrieve it when it is cooked and the meat is really thinly sliced and cooks in 15-20 seconds so put your noodles and vegetables in and get them done first and then just do the meat as you go. I wanted to try the pancake, dumplings and a few other things because I wasn’t sure how I would go with the hotpot, but I didn’t really need to do that in the end as the hotpot experience was super fun and I got into it pretty quickly.
It was a date night out in London for me, but could see there were lots of big groups of friends all out having big communal experiences around us, and it looks like a great place for groups to go for a catch up, have a few drinks and have great fun dipping and sharing tips on the best way to cook different things. I imagine it would work quite well for groups with different dietary requirements.
The staff come and top up the broth as needed, so don’t worry about getting stuck into it, I was impressed with balance of flavours in the broth, even before I started getting into the noodle, vegetable and meat combinations, and as the meal progresses the broth takes on the flavours of all the things you add. I’m getting hungry again just writing this up, so if you’ve found this review and can’t decide what to have for dinner, go here, it’s worth it for the experience alone, and the value for...

We booked a table via Fork, but was told when we arrived that they no longer accept Fork bookings, so we do not have a table. We waited a further 45mins to be seated, during which we were never told when a table would be ready, if at all. Eventually we sat down at a dirty table in the VIP room that was not set. Despite staff taking our food order, we had to ask for cutlery and plates, and for the table to the cleaned/wiped.
Food arrived quickly as it's all cook yourself. Hotpot was OK, nothing spectacularly special. BBQ Lamb skewers were different and probably the only food item worth going for. We wanted to order more food, but was told the kitchen was already closed. No one gave us a last order warning or bothered to serve us during the entire meal.
Other things that proves staff were lacking in training and service is totally inadequate: Front desk had no clue how to reply to us about the booking miscommunication that they are liable for. She avoided our eye contact while we waited and never once told us how long it could take for a table to be ready for us. We asked several times and she just walked away or said she doesn't know. No drinks offered to waiting customers or even asking us to take a seat. Waiting staff only responded when we deliberately approached them to clean and set the table, and for the bill. No warning of last order so our group left hungry. Filthy mixed gender toilets that were dusty, not cleaned, no toilet rolls or paper towels and empty amenities. No communal chopsticks or serving cutlery. Everyone just use their own chopsticks to pick from the hotpot.
We expressed our dissatisfaction to the staff at the end of the night and the staff who we spoke with was apologetic and offered a discount. Hence, the 2 star rating.
Even still, for £35pp not worth going...
