Hermanos Colombian Coffee Roasters – The Loom, Aldgate Review
Location & Vibe (3.5/5) Tucked away inside The Loom building, Hermanos offers a sleek, minimal space that feels cool—both in temperature and style. While it’s not somewhere I’d choose to linger, there were a few laptop users getting work done, suggesting it suits the remote work crowd just fine.
Service (2.5/5) On this visit, the barista seemed distracted and likely overstretched, handling several orders solo. While understandable in a busy moment, it didn’t inspire confidence in the attention to detail—especially when you’re paying a premium for the product.
Coffee Quality (2/5) I ordered my usual benchmark: a flat white, takeaway in my own cup, and at £4, it’s definitely on the upper end of the pricing scale. High hopes were pinned on a well-balanced Colombian roast, but sadly, it didn’t deliver. • The first sip hit hard with sourness, leaving my palate overwhelmed and my tongue almost drooling—not in a good way. • There was no creamy fat or smoothness to balance the acidity. • The foam broke down almost instantly, a clear sign of poor milk texturing. Also, it tickled my pet peeve. My flat white cup was not filled to the top! Very annoying.
Value for Money (2/5) At £4, you expect a coffee that’s either memorable for the right reasons or executed with technical precision. This was neither. For that price—or less—there are better options in the area, with more balanced flavour and better milk work.
Overall Rating: 2.5/5 Hermanos at The Loom didn’t hit the mark this time. With a distracted barista, sour espresso, and poor milk texture, it felt more like a rushed job than a well-crafted cup. That said, I’m not writing them off entirely—I’ll likely try again in a few months, as a second visit might paint a different picture. But for now,...
Read moreI’m a big fan of Hermanos – even though there isn’t one near my home, whenever I’m in an area of London with a Hermanos café, I always stop by. I love their Colombian coffee, and I also really appreciate that they don’t charge extra for alternative milks.
That said, my visit to the Aldgate location this morning was a bit disappointing. I had to wait over 20 minutes for a single coffee because there was only one staff member working. He was polite and clearly doing his best, but it’s a huge space with lots of tables, and one person simply isn’t enough to keep things running smoothly.
I completely understand the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis, but when you’re charging £4 for a coffee, I think it’s reasonable to expect adequate staffing – both to speed up service and to prevent employees from being overworked. A place as beautiful and inviting as the Aldgate café deserves a relaxed atmosphere, and that starts with having enough team members to offer a more personal,...
Read moreFound Hermanos recently while walking around the neighborhood and I’m glad we did! I would venture to say that Hermanos has the best coffee in Aldgate / Whitechapel. They roast their own beans from Colombia and you can definitely taste the different flavours - we’ve tried their daily brew and espresso blends many times, all with unique flavours and notes. Ignore the other reviewer - there is wifi at the cafe, though I do not think there are toilets (never asked to use it, but it is attached to The Loom and I believe they have some for use during “normal” times). Highly welcome Hermanos to the neighborhood!
Only negative... There was a barista/employee who was very rude one time, but, I haven’t seen her at...
