As a Spanish and waitress myself, I can honestly say that both food and service were utterly awful. The only decent things in this restaurant are the beer and the desserts. We paid nearly 40 pounds each for overpriced tapas (we expected them to be a lot bigger given the price). The food was absolutely tasteless like they forgot to add salt to it (the fried eggs clearly didn't have), poor presentation, defrosted pre-cooked fries, a paella worse than the one I used to eat at my school's cantine... The sangria wasn't sweet at all and made without enough time to let it take flavour from the fruits (plus they used the cheapest wine they could find)... It was hard to drink. The hot plate with the shrimps was cracked broken and the oil was spilling throught to the lower plate. The Spanish omelet tasted and looked like the pre-cooked one from Tesco. The desserts were ok nice but neither the size nor the presentation was worth its price. We paid 15 for the service. I would have expected this in a somewhat high-class restaurant, but the table was sticky, the atmosphere poor (playing the same old-fashioned flamenco-pop singer non-stop), and the waitresses - although polite - did not provide a service worth this price. They left the plates piled up in a corner of the table for us to arrange them and, when cleaning our table, they just started to pile them up on top of the paella plate, smashing them against the leftover rice (as we couldn't finish it).
As said, this is what you'd expect for a cheap place. Edible food and decent beer. But this is not what we paid for. Overpriced portions, tasteless tapas, and poor service. I honestly don't get the good reviews here, maybe this place used to be better in the past or the people who frequent it have no idea about Spanish food (or food...
Read moreNestled in the bustling heart of central London, Jamon Jamon Soho offers a vibrant and authentic taste of Spain. This popular tapas bar and restaurant excels at creating a lively atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for both casual meals with friends and more intimate evenings. The menu is a delightful exploration of Spanish classics, from sizzling gambas al ajillo and perfectly crisp calamares a la romana to the essential patatas bravas with their fiery kick. Their selection of paellas is a highlight, cooked to order and generous in portion, providing a true centerpiece for sharing, I wished however that paella for two was a bit "deeper" to dig into ( portion wise). Beyond the tapas, expect a good range of cured meats, including, of course, their namesake jamón, and various meat and seafood mains. Vegetarian options are also well-represented, ensuring there's something for everyone. Service is generally attentive and friendly, adding to the welcoming vibe. While some past reviews mention minor issues with speed, overall, the staff contributed positively to the experience. The decor is classic Spanish, with a warm, inviting feel that transports you away from the London streets. Jamon Jamon Soho strikes a commendable balance between quality and value, especially considering its prime central London location. It's a reliable choice for those seeking a lively and enjoyable Spanish dining experience without...
Read moreYesterday, we celebrated my friend's birthday by exploring a Spanish restaurant, creating a taste of our anticipated Spain trip.
Among the restaurant menus we searched, Jamon Jamon stood out as the only one offering over 3 varieties of Paella, including the intriguing Paella Negra. This particular dish fascinated us, as it expertly infused black squid ink into the arroz, resulting in a delightful seafood aroma throughout the paella.
For tapas, we savored the Pulpo a la gallega, a Galician specialty. Unlike other places where octopus often turns rubbery from overcooking, here it was incredibly tender and buttery.Another tapas highlight was the Lomo al roquefort, featuring grilled pork loin complemented by a velvety roquefort blue cheese sauce. This unexpected combination impressed us with its crispy exterior and juicy, tender loin.
As for the Paella Negra, its jet-black appearance might suggest overcooking, but the taste was mind-blowing. The rice had absorbed the squid ink flawlessly, resulting in soft, perfectly cooked grains without any burnt or undercooked patches. Infused with flavors of squid ink, shrimp, and cuttlefish, this paella presented a delicate taste reminiscent of the sea.
Our experience at Jamon Jamon left us thoroughly satisfied, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone seeking an unforgettable and surprising...
