Jolene Redchurch Street — Restaurant in London

Finally made my way a Jolene after wanting to visit for months! The location is beautiful, and the shop itself cute and tiny! I ventured there for the sticky toffee pudding cake which I had heard good things about online, and was lucky they were still in stock at about 12pm on a Friday, as they seemed out of most other things! The staff were friendly and I quite like the concept of being able to pick your own slice/item. Now let me tell you, this is one of the nicest cakes I have ever had. I am an avid sticky toffee lover, and this cake captured the vibe very well! The sponge is incredibly moist with a lovely caramel and date flavour and scent. The frosting - oh my, I have no I idea how they get it so smooth, and again, an amazing toffee flavour! While quite pricey, this is standard for London, and I shall definitely venture back to Jolene to try some of their other offerings!

Update June 2024 - I have visited Jolene twice since this fiest occasion. Both times I chose two different cakes that were on the counter on the day (it is impossible to know in advance what may be there!). I got the Boston Cream Pie and Coconut Raspberry Layer Cake. My wife and I ordered an iced latte and an iced cappuccino at the counter, when receiving two cups of latte, we were politely asking which one is iced Capp, an extremely rude guy said ‘we don’t offer iced cappuccino, we only do iced latte’, I was shocked for I’ve been to this place many times but never met this kinda unprofessional staff, you should have told me you don’t have it when I paid for an ICED CAPP by the counter, not acting like a big kid when offering customer the drink.

Then I asked if they have straws, this no-mannered guy said, this cup is made for sipping… and made a gesture of drinking, I suddenly feel so pathetic for this guy, seems like he’s the only person in the world knows how to drink this cup. I simply asked again: so you don’t have straws right? Instead of “sorry we don’t have it here”, He answered ‘NO’ with a face like an impatient child. This is just ridiculous, I saw all other staffs are in the shock face, I will never ever come back to this place again, and I feel so sorry for this type of people existing...

This bakery gets the word comfort food better than I've ever experienced. This is the type of food I'd like my partner too bring home when I'm having a bad day. I tried their maple cookie, and I've truthfully never had anything like it. Sweet, comforting melt in your mouth type softness. And the sweetness that makes your mom say: "just this once then" and then never take you again because it is so addictive. Their sausage rolls are something else too. In this one, the meat wasn't treated like an afterthought. Rich, in flavour with a hint of spice. When I tell about my travels it won't be about the vintage streets, the big Ben or the tea we had.
