Horrible experience with Katsute 100—completely unprofessional and disorganized!
I wanted to order a whole strawberry shortcake for my wife’s birthday because she absolutely loves Japanese shortcake. I called their Brick Lane branch to arrange the order, explaining that it’s much closer to me than their Angel branch. The staff assured me it wouldn’t be a problem and directed me to their website—a clunky, poorly designed site with terrible UI.
I placed the order online, including a special request for the cake to be delivered to their Brick Lane branch. Wanting to confirm, I messaged them through their website. They responded, saying it wasn’t possible to deliver to Brick Lane and that it could only be picked up from their Islington branch. Reluctantly, I agreed and left it at that.
But shockingly, they decided to cancel my order without my knowledge. This was just because I had asked if delivery to Brick Lane was possible—not because I canceled the order myself. When I called to check on the order, they casually informed me it had been canceled and refused to take a new order for the next day. Keep in mind, this was a special cake for a birthday celebration!
To make matters worse, the manager was rude and kept changing their story mid-conversation. They showed zero accountability and insisted it was my fault for not responding to a chat message on their website—an email notification about the message went straight to my junk folder! Meanwhile, they had my phone number and email but never bothered to call or send a proper follow-up. Oh, and they’d already taken the payment without providing the cake or resolving the issue.
This establishment clearly prioritizes rapid expansion over quality or customer service. Zero remorse, no apology, and complete disregard for their customers. They are flying high on opening new branches but neglecting the basics of customer interaction.
They ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday surprise. If you care about good service and reliability, avoid Katsute 100 at all costs. This business doesn’t...
Read moreI recently visited a Japanese cafe located on Brick Lane, about a 10-min walk from the Overground station. I've been to their other branches in Angel and Covent Garden several times, and my experiences were quite pleasant. However, my visit to this Brick Lane branch was disappointing. The staff seemed relatively new, and the order-taking process was slow, leading to a crowded counter. The male staff member responsible for taking orders was rather impolite. I ordered an Iced Strawberry Matcha and a Matcha Croffle with Matcha ice cream. The cafe had a cozy yet chaotic atmosphere, but I noticed that all the tables were uncleaned. The wait time for my food was excessive, and my buzzer never went off. When I checked the counter, I found that my Matcha Croffle with Matcha ice cream had already been prepared, but my drink seemed to have been overlooked, which explained the delay in notification. The ice cream on top of the croffle had already melted halfway, and the croffle itself was clearly overcooked…! The so-called "ice cream" tasted more like a slushy. As for the Iced Strawberry Matcha, it was just a standard matcha with a hint of strawberry syrup…very average. Overall, my experience at this cafe was quite disappointing, and I don't think I'll...
Read moreI’ve never given all 5 stars for a place but this cafe deserves it! Went here with 2 friends on a Saturday late afternoon and shared 3 cakes and a drink.
Rose hojicha - 6/10 quite faint flavour but still refreshing (maybe cos I got it iced) Black sesame soufflé cheesecake - 9/10 so soft and amazing texture. Not too sweet. Not heavy at all. If it was more rich in black sesame taste, even better Mont Blanc - 7/10 love the chestnut flavour, very classic Japanese but is heavier than the one above. Not too sweet tho. The pie crust is perfect Sakura chiffon cake - 6/10 my least favourite bc the Sakura flavour is faint. But super soft and still amazing. Perfect for a light afternoon snack or dessert
Vibe is amazing. Decor is very Japanese with wooden seating and tables and even a tea ceremony set up downstairs! Read other reviews and found out there are matcha cakes? Defo need to come back and try it. It also has free wifi (didn’t connect it tho so not sure if it is good) so could make a good work cafe? Didn’t see any plugs tho
Overall 8/10 would recommend and I need to come back and spend an afternoon here! Perfect...
