La Piccola Deli — Restaurant in London

As a regular customer I noticed a lots of changes lately, all negatives, that it’s the cause for changing my review from 5 to 3 stars only.

The passionate Italian staff almost gone, as it gone the warm welcome they always gave us entering at the Deli. The food has changed, especially the croissant, too crunchy than usual brioches use to be served before, stuffed with really too much cream in it. At least a month that the “bombolone” or stuffed doughnuts disappeared. In addition the cappuccinos we order were absolutely really too hot with cacao on top for which we did not asked for, never happened before. Another small but big details is the backgrounds music, changed from classic Italian songs to Capital Breakfast out of the blue. Now, not sure if the management of the Deli has changed tried to cover it up leaving the same name or maybe just the entire staff, from waiters to chef simply changed, the fact is that this is no La Piccola Deli I used to have breakfast every weekend anymore.

Time to find a new spot, unfortunately.

Great bakery, awful restaurant

Saddened to write this review. I greatly enjoyed the pastries and decided to give the breakfast restaurant a go. Unfortunate mistake.

I asked if a simple replacement of one of the ingredients of my preferred meal was possible. They emphatically said yes, only to ignore my request and bring an unmodified dish. Only then was I informed that this replacement wasn't an option (after I had already ordered, paid for my meal, which had been prepared).

They then offered a solution that would be brought as a side right away, but didn't bring it for another 15 min (when asked it was always "right away"), which meant that I had the rest of the meal go cold while I was waiting for this promised side to arrive.

While the food was eventually pleasant if lukewarm, the lack of transparency and unwillingness to accommodate (I would have happily chosen something else had I been informed that substitutions were not possible), and the seemingly petty resistence to bring a solution they had proposed and that would have savaged my meal made the experience disappointing and underwhelming.

They make delicious products and I would say that if you stick to ordering from what is already on display, you will have a pleasant experience. Otherwise, I would stay away from the restaurant as your meal is too dependent on the cook's...

I didn't want to post a public review but as there are no contact details on your website this is the only way to communicate with you. I had lunch today and ordered a portion of pasta with a side of vegetables. The lovely male server informed me this would be £9. Upon paying, the female server told me it was £13. I queried this and I told her I had been quoted £9. She gave me a horrible look as if I was the dirt on her shoe and said ''Absolutely not'' as if I was trying on purpose to pay less. We then checked with the male server who said 'oh it's £9 for just the pasta'. This was not made clear at the time. The female server then acted incredibly smug and made me feel so small and humiliated in front of the other customers. Look - it's £4 - really not much extra in the grand scheme of things, and the food was delicious and well worth £13. BUT my whole experience was completely ruined by the rude and patronising behaviour of the female server. Never have I been made to feel so rubbish and upset by hospitality staff before.
