Loved the food, but I had specifically informed the restaurant re my guest who has gluten allergies. I was sent a long list of items that could be made gluten free and was happy to have booked a table, and that this would be noted in our booking. But, when we ordered there were extremely limited items that could be made gluten free giving my guest not much choice at all. Disappointing as I had sent my guest the list weeks before to approve and she was excited. We were served by 3 different people and our table was right next to the doorway where the till was so staff kept coming and going from that area. But with the situation with the gluten free issue perhaps that turned out to be in our favour as we were right there and couldnt be forgotten. The staff did what they could. Another downfall was that one dish came to our table a lot later than the rest when we were 3/4 of the way through the meal. We weren't keen to have it but we were pressured into having it by the male member of staff who said we looked like we were still eating as there was still food on the table, and if we weren't eating he would take it all away. Thought this was odd. Sometimes when there is a bit of food left you talk and continue to nibble on it whilst chatting and drinking. Felt a bit rushed at that point but then we agreed to have the last dish anyway. Have to say was excited that Mimi Meifair could accommodate the gluten free aspect, but dissatisfied with the fact that I communicated this prior to our visit and then the options were literally way more than halved. But luckily the options that were offered were delicious albeit that the dover sole was one of the most expensive items on the menu. Spoilt our evening a little but we had £43 taken off the bill which was ok, but you cannot take away the fact that communication was poor to begin with. So I would not recommend this to anyone who has any dietary requirements, and this is very common now so the restaurant should really try harder to accommodate customers and communicate better. Only made this booking due to the positive experiences I have had at Bombay Bustle. But I have to say the customer service was not up to the same standard at all. The staff could be way more polite in their manner and tone of voice at Mimi Meifair I am...
Read moreMy family and I sat in The Parlour on Level 2. Initially, we were sat at a small table, however the staff were very polite and accommodating and moved my family to a larger table (2 tables for 2 kindly put together for us). The Parlour is a wonderfully decorated room, the interior was elegant and quite homely.
The dim sum we ordered was very tasty; in general, every dish we ordered was delicious.
Understandably, being new there are a couple of points worth mentioning for feedback purposes only, as my overall experience was very positive and I plan on returning. We ordered a lovely bottle of wine, the waiter asked how many people will be drinking wine to which my brother clearly replied, he would only taste it and my father and I would be drinking it, so 3 glasses were required. Only two glasses were provided, one to my brother and one to my father. After tasting, my brother clarified again that he will not be drinking the wine and that I would be, but the waiter was simply going to refill my brother's glass and give that to me; we had to ask, again, for another glass for me. I was surprised at the portion size of the Peking Duck served, it was delicious but considering only one course of this is offered here, and the price, I do not think it was worth it. We asked what happens to the remainder of the duck and the waitress said 'it goes in the bin'. I have eaten Peking Duck at Kai, Min Jiang, Novikov Asian and Hakkasan and comparatively, the portion here is relatively small especially for 4 people. I just about managed to enjoy two pancakes.
As stated above, my overall experience was positive and I do highly recommend this restaurant. Notable dishes include the Spicy Sichuan Wonton, Mushroom Spring Rolls, Wagyu Black Pepper, Hakka noodles and Black Pepper Beef. A special touch was the owner greeting everyone as well as the...
Read moreThe food was excellent, but unfortunately, the service was lacking.
The receptionist and porter were very nice and helpful upon arrival. The place was beautiful, and the staff was kind. However, upon reaching our table, we were immediately informed that we had to order quickly as the kitchen was closing. Since the restaurant was Asian, ordering was challenging for us, unfamiliar with the menu. Hastily, we ordered, only to find out the food was spicy, which wasn't mentioned and no one told us. Despite the spice, the food was truly good. Then, we were asked to order dessert while still eating our main course. All the diner was in a rush. When it came time to pay, the bill was high, expected in such a fine dining place. We didn't mind the price or the added fee/tip of about 30 pounds. However, when it came to additional tipping while paying with credit card, we didn't leave another one. We believe a tip is for good service, not pressure all evening to order quickly.
At this point, the waitress (whom I believe was the manager) changed her expression and tone drastically. Some minutes later, she returned to the dining area, crossed her arms, and stared at us, to make us leave. When we went downstairs, she asked if we had ordered a taxi, then proceeded to yell at the staff for being lazy and instructed us aggressively to sit while waiting for the taxi, making us uncomfortable that we were in the way.
It's a shame - the food was truly excellent, the staff super friendly, and the place very nice. However, such treatment from a waitress/manager is unacceptable in a restaurant of this caliber, especially considering the...
