Nice place, but a disappointing experience.

To elaborate:

  1. Hollondaise sauce is a classic and one of the "mother sauces" of French cuisine. A trained chef will have learned how to make it. It is a warm sauce, without a doubt.

MHK claim they make the Hollondaise sauce in house, but that they can't serve it warm as the egg would cook. True, above 60 degrees that becomes an issue. However, butter doesn't really melt while cold, so you gotta make it at least as hot as melted butter.

There is also the fact that you put a cold sauce on hot eggs. What's the point of a coked breakfast then?

I don't know, their breakfast menu features Hollondaise a lot. Considering they serve it like this, I cannot understand why there aren't constant complaints...

@Mortimer House Kitchen: hire a chef that can make warm Hollondaise sauce. That's what it is meant to be like.

  1. Our group of four ordered four teas. None of us got a full pot of tea. The pots were just about half full. The pots were quite large but that's no excuse in my opinion. Serving someone a half of something should be a no-no. It immediately sets the wrong tone: "we cannot be asked to fill up the pot with water so take what you get, you cretin!"

Our table asked three times for extra water and we got ignored.

Again, I think it is an audacity to serve it like this in the first place. Button then also ignore my expressed wish is pretty abysmal. If Mortimer House Kitchen feels their customers are undeserving of more hot water for tea, why don't they just buy smaller pots instead of insulting me?

The staff was generally nice and friendly, albeit ignoring us on water.

Not a place you should go to. A nice ambiente doesn't make up for such...

Either there was a major miscommunication or we were not clued in but we were charged for items after being told they were either complementary or part of the dish.

We sat down and they offered us some water (still or sparkling). We denied it the first time. We ended up getting misled into getting the water adding £4 to the bill. Fair enough it's London make sure you ask for tap water and you should be good.

Now for the main course meal I personally had the Tuscan beans on toast. I thought this is an easy dish for them as it looked like a fancy place. I was with two others and they had the full breakfast and the Italian baked eggs. Thier meals came a good 5 minutes before mine and looked decent just a fairly small portion. The only thing that worried me was that the Italian baked eggs came with a very thin piece of bread and I feared that that also would be the bread I would receive.

5 minutes later, lo and behold I had the thinnest beans on toast ever seen. I wish I took a photo of it.

To add to the fire I was told that the two eggs that were on the plate were part of the dish. When we got to the bill we were charged £2 per egg. And I was the only one with egg.

To summarise the food that everyone had that day looked visually appealing and that was it. It was dry and tasteless in areas that it shouldn't be. We were charged for items without being told so. And service was generally...

OK, I want to clarify. The table service was so good the gentleman who's served the table is Murad. However, the welcoming was not up to the standard. The lady at the reception (entrance} really need to make sure the guest is welcomed. I asked if I can set outside and she said no, with out any courtesy, or even say oh sorry we can not. She didn't even give an option to choose which table I want, even when she offers the table she didn't ask which side I prefer. It like this is what we have and I just need to take it. Didn't offer to take the coat, it seems she is not happy doing this work. At the end when I was leaving the waiter had to help with the bill and coat as she was busy talking with other guests. Really not professional. It seems that based on her mood how she deals with guests. On the other hand, the waiter, Murad was so welcoming and accommodating. When I sat on the table I had a second thought to leave. Then he came and he was so nice if felt OK I will order. He was serving nearly all tables with such a kind smile. The place is lovely, food is good.

Thank you for your consideration as welcoming is the first impression about the place in total and it will defined...

I tend to say this a lot but London is very competitive. Today I felt taken advantage of at Mortimer House. We had two simple dishes, served very promptly I must say by some welcoming staff members. The two coffees we ordered for >£4 none the less came with splotches of milk - I’m not going to be petty and ask for a heart or flower but if you are going to overcharge me, I sure hope your barista is trained. Next, those two beautiful dishes you see in the pictures are your £16 meal with thin ham slice on an excessively small piece of muffin that was a tad stale. The poached eggs were not cooked well enough to be done but still poached. The quality of the food in taste, texture and smell was Tesco at best. You know it’s an issue when you can prepare a better meal at home. If it is any consolation we were done in 50 mins. But obviously I had to pay £40 no show fee to make this reservation which probably heighten my demands / expectations as a customer. Needs significant improvement for an establishment competing with some of London’s best brunch places in the area.

Exciting and delicious food <3 Asparagus special with ricotta and crispy mint: I often cook asparagus at home but this give me new inspirations. The ricotta is indulgently creamy yet airy and light. The crispy mint is mind blowing. The asparagus are fresh and crunchy, nicely cooke. The fish part isn’t noticeable. I would have added a bit umami to it, but it’s already very good. Slightly pricy at over 14 but worth the adventure. Chicken offal ragu and Sardinian gnocchi: I didn’t know what I was expected but this is how I like it (lovers of lover gather!) Very flavorful. Chili peppers adds a subtle punch. The space is bright and lush. Food came fast. The staff are super friendly. I was really interested in the crispy polenta and arancini but falls for the seasonal asparagus (I was thinking about taking a veggie side anyways, but the gentleman succeeded in tempting me with fresh in season greens and minty lemony ricotta with Bottarga.) Passed by this place a long time ago and finally found a chance to stop by. Would definitely come back for more dishes :>

My partner managed to find the Library and Den room private dinner area of this place with a guest chef. The place wasn’t busy at all as I don’t think people know about it yet. The menu is small but everything on it was delicious. I had the chowder and smoked lobster a and both were to die for. Not too salty as I’ve been to a lot of restaurants that over salt. The flavours of each food tray shine through and it was delicious. I had an apple pie for dessert and it was delicious too but was quite full by then to appreciate it all. It also came with onion broche and omg, it was soooooooo goooooooood. My partner has a sight intolerance for garlic and onion and they remembered after we ordered and came out with different options to what he could eat. So they are well catered for intolerances.
