My review is specifically for the jazz event on Tuesday 9th April. I booked this event on the 7th March, so over a month beforehand, meaning I should have got a very good table in front of the stage and room to breathe around the table. Instead, we were shown a table which I immediately noticed was unacceptable. I asked the lady at the door, who I presume is employed by Pizza Express, why we had been given this unfit for purpose table, despite the fact that I had booked over a month in advance. She immediately disclaimed any responsibility and was totally unhelpful. I requested a different table or else a refund as I would not be staying for the event because of the unsuitable table and its location. See my photos - The table they allocated me & my wife was so extremely close to 3 other tables that I would not have been able to eat comfortably, then relax and enjoy the show whilst sat comfortably, with room to move and cross my leg if I chose to. The distance between this table and the 3 surrounding tables was less than a foot, which is completely unacceptable an inappropriate too. It's evident that this venue prioritises packing in as many people as they can in order to maximise profits at the expense of customer comfort and safety. What are the maximum number of people which can be in this room at any one time? This is a question I'll be asking Westminster council. As I stated, the lady was unhelpful, she said the "music team" are responsible for the seating. Incorrect - Pizza Express management are responsible for the seating, plus when I paid for the tickets originally, my contract is with Pizza Express, not an unknown to me "music team". So my wife and I ended up leaving, totally distressed. That evening, I wrote to the email address on their website, it had a phone number also which stated calls would be answered Monday to Sunday between 10am and 5pm, hence my email. I wrote my email at approximately 7.45pm on Tuesday 9th April and sent it. Their website states that "emails will receive a response within 48 hours". Today is Friday 12th April, 5.30pm, and I haven't received any response. So this evidently shows how unprofessional and charlatan their operation is, with regards to dealing with customer issues who are attending their music events. I requested a full refund in my email, if they don't action this, then I will immediately contact my credit card company explaining the situation and providing the photos which I took, highlighting the unacceptable table position and the unhelpful Pizza Express lady, who I believe could have been a...
Read moreThe food is decent enough, and I've enjoyed coming here to eat at the restaurant, but I recently made the mistake of trying to get a takeaway to eat in my office. There was nobody at the front to take orders at all so after standing around for 2-3 minutes I just had to wander up to the incredibly stressed/grumpy/busy waitresses in the middle of the restaurant and try to order something. Eventually I found someone to reluctantly take the order, but then they have nowhere to sit so I just had to sit rather awkwardly at a table in the restaurant next to various other people out for dinner with their partners, etc.
It took about 20 minutes, then when the girl gave me the order it was in the most ridiculously useless carrier bag. It was a bag that seemed to be designed to carry a pizza box flat, but it absolutely isn't a bag that can hold anything else because there are no sides on it. I had ordered some "polenta chips" with my pizza and instead of putting these in a separate bag she put it on top of the pizza box. So without realising it I walked straight out the restaurant and within a second of walking down the street the chips went flying off the side of the box and all over the pavement - ruining the food and making me look like an utter pillock in the process. Perfect.
Then to top it off we'll throw in that it costs about £2.50 for a coke because it's a 330ml glass bottle, which you can't open very easily if you don't have a bottle opener - bit of an issue for a takeaway. After all that the pizza was actually quite nice, but if they're going to do takeaway they really need to have a serious think about how they do it - somewhere to order, somewhere to sit (e.g. a bench), a bag that doesn't catapult your food on to the pavement, screwtop bottles, etc. This was anything...
Read moreI visited Pizza Express in High Holborn earlier today for lunch with my family and wanted to leave a glowing review. Despite the restaurant being quite busy with a large birthday party, the staff were incredibly attentive and made our family of five (with two young children) feel very welcome. My waiter Bruno was fantastic - he took time to explain the specials and made some spot-on recommendations to suit our tastes.
The food was absolutely delicious. The crust on the pizza was perfectly crispy, yet still soft and chewy on the inside. And the toppings were so fresh and flavorful. Every bite was better than the last. We also tried the cannelloni pasta which was sublime - the perfect al dente pasta stuffed with rich ricotta and spinach, smothered in a creamy tomato sauce.
Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. You can certainly tell the chefs take great pride in their work. The restaurant itself was also spotless, even with the bustle of a big party going on.
Overall, we had a top-notch dining experience at Pizza Express High Holborn as a family. The food was incredible and the service from Bruno and the rest of the staff was friendly and attentive to us and our two kids. I'll definitely be back soon and would highly recommend it to any family looking for delicious Italian food in a lively yet cozy...
