I went there for the first time for lunch with a friend. We were treated very nicely by one of the baristas. After lunch I wanted to have a cake to share with my friend. There was a very thin left over slice there. The barista said "let me cut you another more normal size slice of this cake". I told him "cut me two normal size slices (paid for two of course) and as I will share with my friend or alternatively you can give me that one slightly bigger slice (and I will pay double for it)". Anyway, the barista was very nice and he said "let me give you this thin left over slice extra on the house since you are getting one thick slice for the price of two". At that moment the manager intervened and got the extra sliced out of my plate and said " we will sell it someone else, you can't give it to him". Then, I heard she has been complaining about the event to the other managers. I wanted to talk to another manager. She responded back saying "obviously this is a place where we need to make money, I am sure you will understand". I told her that this was a very distasteful act for a newly opened place (taking away the extra thin slice put on my plate by the barista, that should not be sold to anyone because it looked like a left over). The barista was embarrassed an apologized, the second manager listened the whole conversation and did not even apologized. The manager woman who intervened the barista said that " I am sorry you find it distasteful but we have the rule that the slices need to be cut in certain ways (i.e. which means thinner than you were given by our barista), etc. I think it is pretty rude to take away the gift given by one of your workers. I will go to other 20 places available on Kingsway as I used to do. First visit a massive failure. My only hope that the barista who was trying to be kind and generous did not get punished afterwards for his kindness. If I go back that it would be because of the kind barista, not...
Read moreI must write this review with a heavy heart as I received notice today that my tsar of all coffee related needs has sadly left the Kingsway branch. His ravishingly lovely hair, his eyes were bright jewels twinkling in the cold light of day and his bewitching personality... wow. Frequenting Soho Coffee Kingsway for more than a year this young mans charming personality left me bewitched and spellbound. Never had man tasted the nectar of the gods before until I tried his hot and steamy lattes and I fear now that I shall never again. I have created a video to show my appreciation for this young man who I can safely say treated me more as a friend than customer and I to to him. Thank you mysterious Barista, thank...
Read moreSuch a shame that the morning staff are so terrible despite the food being tasty - the server who handles the food gives everyone dirty looks as they order like we're ruining her day before preparing the food with complete disinterest and throwing it across the counter with a grunt - to make it worse, she took the orders of 6 people after me before starting to prepare my sandwich that required cooking, so I stood waiting for 10 minutes for it to be cooked. Morning shift staff need to know they're providing a really poor service, especially as the lunch shift staff are usually...
