It's a great shame in this restaurant that the service is poor and the management is totally appalling. I arrived with friends and nobody came to our table to even ask if we wanted a drink for the first 15 minutes so we had to go and ask somebody if we could order something. We ordered starters, half a duck and a bottle of wine and asked them to give us a few minutes to choose the main course. The wine took ages to arrive and we had to go and ask again. With an ordered the main course. And then nothing happened for half an hour. Then the main course started arriving but we pointed out we hadn't even had our starters. They said they couldn't find an order of starters and would be like the main course before the starter and of course we said no 15 minutes later still no sign of the starters and so we now finished the bottle of wine and had to order another one but £30. Eventually the food came and it was quite nice. However, because of the mixup and bad service I asked if they would offer some sort of discount and they refused. I therefore offered to leave my name and address and they can contact me but they decided to call the police! I spoke to the police on the phone and the restaurant that told them that we refused to pay, but I pointed out to the police that we hadn't refused to pay. We had asked for a discount which they hadn't offered. The police pointed out there's no way they're gonna come out which will sign you in the first Place. The police asked the manager if he could offer some sort of discount and he said he would offer £10 and at this stage I thought okay that's fair enough so I agreed. We then went into the restaurant and he said I'll offer you £5 off the bill a minute ago you offered £10 and you even agreed that on the phone to the police, but again he totally refused. All of this time my group was still sitting at the table and there was a queue of people so apart from being mean he was also preventing his own Restaurant for making more money. At this point I filmed him and said that he now wasn't going with what he agreed even with the police so I wasn't gonna pay anything and you'd have to contact me later. At this point he did offer the £10 discount. I would thoroughly recommend you go to one of the other many Vietnamese restaurants in the area where the food is equally good, but certainly this one the management is...

Food was edible but not very tasty, the pho noodles were undercooked. We went on a Saturday night and the noise was unbelievable. We waited for 15 minutes outside, were asking for our orders half an hour after we took a seat, and the food was not worth it. The positive reviews for this place are so misleading it’s crazy. More like most undercooked pho in the world, most overcooked and hard beef in the world. I’ll say this though, the pieces of chicken were cooked a good amount so they got one thing right at least. I kid you not, I had a headache two minutes after taking a seat. My family wanted to leave after two minutes in that noise, but we’d already waited for 20 minutes to come in so it would have felt like a waste, so we stayed. My ears were ringing as soon as we stepped outside the restaurant, and it felt so peaceful even though we were on a busy high street- it was unbelievable how quiet it felt outside. I couldn’t hear anyone while I was in there and I’m a teenager so my hearing isn’t exactly deteriorating yet. We had to basically shout across the table to say anything to each other, and any sound anyone made was 2x louder because of the echo created by the really high ceiling. The decor was off putting and obnoxious, an ugly bright darkish green colour, abs the interior looked like the restaurant of a cheap hotel. The waiters lacked a sense of personal space, they were leaning i their bodies into my friends faces until they were nearly touching to take the orders, which made them abs myself very uncomfortable. Honestly I wish I could give this place zero stars but unfortunately that’s not an option. Thanks for the terrible experience, will not be...

My wife and I visited this restaurant on Monday, and unfortunately, the service left us quite disappointed.

Due to our unfamiliarity with the menu, we mistakenly ordered stir-fried noodles instead of noodle soup. After a long wait, a male server brought us the food. We expressed our confusion, and he appeared to check with someone who seemed to be a manager. The dishes were taken back to the kitchen, and we assumed we might be given what we had actually meant to order.

However, the server returned shortly after, stated that he had confirmed the order, and served us the same dishes again. Unfortunately, because the food had clearly been left out during this back-and-forth, it was already cold by the time we received it.

While we accepted that the original ordering error was on our side, things took a more concerning turn at the end of the meal. Upon receiving the bill, we noticed that we had been charged for noodle soup, even though we were served stir-fried noodles — which are actually cheaper. Had we not checked the bill carefully, we would have ended up paying more than we should have.

We pointed this out to the staff, and after some delay, they confirmed it was indeed a mistake. But most disappointing of all: not once did anyone offer a single word of apology. No explanation, no courtesy — just quiet correction.

Mistakes can happen in any restaurant. But how they are handled is what defines the customer experience. The lack of basic hospitality here made what could have been a small issue feel much more unpleasant.

If you choose to dine here, I strongly recommend checking your bill...

We visited this restaurant on a very busy evening. I was really looking forward to a good bowl of Pho but as I don’t eat meat, that wasn’t an option here. The only broth they have is beef broth and they do state it on the menu. Did ask a member of staff too and they confirmed this is the only option. For starters we ordered spicy calamari and tofu simmer rolls. The calamari was not spicy at all, at most was dusted with some powder and the only spicy element to it was the chilli it was garnished with. The tofu summer rolls came with a peanut sauce which I really like. The rolls however were satisfactory simply because the rice paper was tough to chew. It felt like there was so much paper that overlapped or the paper was not dipped in the water enough. For main, my partner had the stewed beef noodle soup and I had the stir fried seafood rice. My partner really enjoyed his meal as it was flavoursome and rich but my food was quite disappointing. The dish had so much onion and I had to put some in the side plate. The sauce they use for the seafood stir fry tasted good but there wasn’t enough of it which made the dish quite bland. The prawns were perfectly juicy and succulent but the squid was like chewing on tyre. I did leave feeling like the only thing on the menu that mattered was beef noodle soup and the rest of it was just left to be average. The service was lovely. The waiters and waitresses are very kind, well-mannered and very accommodating. We did have the wrong food left on our table and our food almost go to another table but that was understandable given there were no empty seats in the room.

Song Que Café, has long been a favorite of mine, consistently delivering exceptional Vietnamese cuisine. Their phở, particularly the Chicken Phở, is a standout—rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced, making it a staple in my top five Vietnamese restaurants. However, during my visit, I was slightly disappointed by the service, which did not meet the standards I’ve come to expect. Despite the excellent food, the service issues were upsetting. It’s a shame, as this restaurant has been a reliable choice for authentic Vietnamese flavors. I hope this experience was an anomaly and look forward to returning, hoping for a more consistent service experience. (PICTURE 1&2) EDIT: Second visit and absolutely blown away this time! Came back to Sông Quê Café and once again, the pho did not disappoint. This time I had my usual prawn and squid pho but added extra chicken – and wow, it was banging! So adaptable, so flavoursome, and honestly just hits the spot every time. My partner had the steak and chicken pho with added prawns – also top-tier. We were served by Ben today for the first time and he was fantastic. Super attentive, asked all the right questions, and made us feel well looked after. Definitely deserves the role – we really enjoyed his service and company. There’s just something about that pho… it’s SO addictive. We’ll definitely be back again. Sông Quê, you’ve got us hooked! (PICTURES 3&4) It’s great to see improvements, keep it up and hats off to the chef 😍

Very dapper day vibes with the crystal chandelier against the almost mint green floor to ceiling colour that makes this long-established Vietnamese restaurant a standout amongst a street of many others offering the same fare. Local aunties can be seen gathered around larger tables reminiscent of how Chinese cafes are set up. Service is quick and efficient with actual Vietnamese staff in the front (who are very sweet and happy if you can actually say some of the dishes in Vietnamese - you can see it makes their day seeing you enjoy the dishes of the homeland). Don't worry, a fully English menu with pictures of some of the popular dishes is available. Also, how cute is the store front printed as the logo - on the business cards and take out bag? Very French bakery vibes. I guess you can truly say this is a place reflective of influences. Prawn crackers are given on the house to munch on whilst you peruse the menu for common sought-after dishes as well as a range of things I haven't seen elsewhere. I was keen to try the caramelised fish - sweet, sticky, spicy, and umani. What a great pairing with freshly boiled rice. I also get excited anywhere I can see banh khot (appears on the menu as prawn muffins, which I find endearing), so I ordered that too. It was crispy but anaemic. I felt it was lacking in the coconut taste I've fallen for in other establishments, but it's still a savoury mini pancake, so I enjoyed it nevertheless.
