I’m giving Tattershall a 2 for the food and the view I had from my table, if it wasn’t for that it would be a 1… Even then to put that into perspective the food was just slightly better than what you’d get from a Wetherspoons which looking back on i’d have wished I went there instead.
Upon arrival the bouncer was hostile and sort of strange, he didn’t say a single word to me until I appeared visibly confused on where the restaurant was located within the boat.
The restaurant itself was musty to say the least, it felt very unhygienic & icky. Upon arrival the waiter who dealt with me & my partner was unable to initially find our booking on their system. The way he came across was as if my partner was lying about having one (bare in mind this is no Michelin star restaurant) Once my partner showed the reservation from his own phone, we were taken to where we was supposed to be seated. Upon being shown our table 2 men that stunk & looked homeless had moved our reservation sign & were sat comfortably as if it was there booking. They took about 10 minutes to move from our table & once they did the waiter didn’t wipe down the table nor did they even give us clean cutlery. My partner had to go and get us cutlery from another table & ask the staff to wipe where we were sitting which was done very half heartedly.
The menu I was given had disgusting food or whatever it may be all over it.. I didn’t wanna touch it with my bare hands. The service is terrible, the people who worked there seemed miserable other than a guy with longer hair who was okay but just like the others, barely attentive to customers needs. At this point my partner didn’t really wanna stay but it was quite late & we didn’t know where else to go so I told him we’ll just stick it out. The waiter who took our order was snarky and weird, he made a joke about how much food we were ordering (A starter & a main each) which made me feel really uncomfortable.
Anyway, the starters ended up coming out quickly & they were piping hot so that is a bonus. The prawns were nice & my favourite thing that I ate. The chicken wings on the other hand had basically no meat on them, it was just crispy skin & were not nice so I left those to my partner who agreed with me. The mains which were 2 burgers & fries took a while to come out and as I mentioned earlier were very comparable to a whether spoons meal, nothing special at all for the prices you pay.
The atmosphere of the place is weird. It’s very run down which is a shame because for the location & novelty of the whole eating on a boat in front of the London Eye on the Thames they could do so much more with it. We didn’t stay around after our meal we left quite quickly, the music was dead loud and not in a good way, it was just a lot of cheesy pop music that was overly loud for no reason. The crowds of people there all seemed to be the same sorts.. just weirdos. The toilets were absolutely disgusting & if I wasn’t desperate to pee I wouldn’t have used them at all. £95 for a bog standard meal for 2 people & that’s not including if we were to get any alcoholic beverages because we just had soft drinks. I would not go back nor would I recommend it to anyone...
Read moreIf you have ever dreamed of sailing down the mighty river Thames, on a luxury yacht, cruising from sunset until dawn, filled with party goers like Diddy celebrating spring break, back in the day that is, this is not the place to visit.
The Tattershall Castle is moored up, probably for health and safety reasons as I daresay it's far from seaworthy, but remains a fixture of London's pub scene, located between Embankment and Charing Cross stations. The location alone means it is often filled with tourists and office workers, with many central government and diplomatic buildings in the immediate vicinity.
You enter via a gantry on Embankment, which is always manned by security guards in the event of piracy or stowaways, with the top deck, to use the nautical term, as you would expect, lined with planks of wood, with several tables, 2 bars and plenty of room to stand, whilst the boat gently rocks.
The downstairs, or lower deck, once again to use the proper naval lingo, is carpeted, has one bar but more seating and tables for diners, and is fitted throughout with dark wood panels and brass fixtures, resembling the Harwich to Hook of Holland P&O ferry from the 1980s, a classy, if not understated, look.
Points deducted for the poor service experienced on my last visit. The gentleman behind the bar with the 'KING' diamanté chain took my order for 2 drinks, poured one, then promptly forgot about the other one and started slicing lemons. I watched him do that for half a minute before asking for the drinks, to which he got huffy, before pouring me the flattest pint of Beavertown Neck Oil I have ever been served, KING AWFUL is all I can say.
Overall, an average vibe, a great location and bad service - also a great place for a...
Read moreDisappointing Vegetarian Options and Poor Service We recently visited Tatter Castle for afternoon tea C£22 per person), but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. While the views and ambiance were excellent, the service and accommodation for dietary needs were disappointing. Out of our party of seven, three were vegetarian, and one had a chickpea allergy. The vegetarian options were extremely limited—only one sandwich suitable for vegetarians, and even that was unsuitable for the guest with a chickpea allergy. When we raised this issue, the staff stated that no alternatives were available, leaving us with very little to eat. To make matters worse, the sandwiches were served mixed together on the same platter, with non-vegetarian options touching the vegetarian ones. As someone whose dietary restrictions are based on religious reasons, I found this unacceptable, but the staff were dismissive, stating, “this is how it is served.” Despite prior dietary preferences being confirmed by the booking lead, the restaurant failed to accommodate these, resulting in one person receiving a single small sandwich and another receiving just a basic cheese and tomato option. The service was equally poor—no one checked in on us during our time there, and we had to keep asking for basic things like hot water for tea. The restaurant did offer a £10 discount for the group, but this did little to make up for the lack of vegetarian-friendly options and inattentive service. While the setting is undeniably beautiful, the overall experience was disappointing. Tatter Castle needs to significantly improve its menu offerings and service to cater to dietary requirements and provide a welcoming experience...
