This is a mixed review....the actual boat ride to Greenwich was very nice, the gentleman operating the boat were very kind and helpful, my rant is regarding the initial boarding. This was my first time using Uber boat, I purchased two tickets for what I thought was a one way ride to Greenwich, but I only bought it for the east zone. We're at the London Eye entrance, I showed my tickets to en employee, asking if this was the right spot for these tickets and she responded yes and to walk to the boarding point. We're waiting for the boat and a new employee starts asking to see the tickets, I show her my QR code and she doesn't look happy with them, but that's all I have. She scans it and proceeds to tell me that I'm in the wrong zone, but with this nasty tone, speaking to me slowly as If couldn't comprehend her. I'm in the wrong zone, so I'm still asking how do I get there from this boat. She looks at me, surprised, like, you still want to go? Yes, I f-ing want to go, what a question. Exasperated, I turn and see a tap in/tap out platform and then ask, can I use my oyster card here(had I known that, I wouldn't have gone through this trouble... Again, first timer here... The employee asks again, as If I couldn't comprehend, you have a oyster card? Use it there...and then she placed us back in line and just walked off. As she left, the couple behind us said , that was more complicated and she was an idiot. All she had to do is let you go on the boat because you already bought tickets or say, yes, this boat will take you to Greenwich. My goodness, is it too much to ask a customer, is this your first time, or let me give you a quick rundown. What a horrid way to treat people, I already had a headache and it took everything not to go off on her all because I was in the "wrong zone". Terrible customer service, but if you're not going to help people, why...
Read moreThis is a review for Uber Taxi's "River Roamer" unlimited-use one day ticket. I believe this is where the value is at. I'd recommend this for out-of-towners as the best way to see the sights with ease, and grab a snack, coffee or tea from the on-board counter while on the way to your next stop. We've used the hop on/hop off "water taxis" in Paris previously, they're one of the cheapest & easiest way to get around a city that's river-centric. For someone not familiar with how these work - multiple boats work a circuit, and boats arrive/depart the piers every 10-15 minutes. The piers are on both sides of the river and the stops seem to line up pretty well with the main attractions. Right now they have service is running from Battersea, to I believe North Greenwich. Tickets are about £20 each with VAT, for unlimited one-day use. You can use the Uber app, the Thames Clipper app, the Oyster card (also good for buses & Tube), or just purchase a one day "River Roamer" ticket from nearby kiosks or ticket booths at one of the piers. The boats have windows that wrap up for great views of the buildings that tower over the river, leather (or leather-ish) contoured seating, restrooms, are climate-controlled, and as I mentioned there's a snack/drink bar on board. We really enjoyed the coffee breaks and a comfy place to warm up in between our site-seeing. Very relaxing, easy to use, with friendly staff. We cut down on our walking (still got 8 miles in for one day!), the piers are conveniently located along the shoreline, and the cost is low if you consider other (full day)...
Read moreA Tale of Two Thames Journeys: Disappointment with Uber Boat by Thames Clippers My experience with Uber Boat by Thames Clippers was unfortunately marred by a significant issue on the return leg of my journey. While the initial boat trip up the Thames was perfectly acceptable, the return journey was quite the opposite and left a sour taste. The primary frustration stemmed from the insistence on scanning in for the return trip, even after a considerable wait in a queue where boarding seemed to be happening at a snail's pace. To then be subjected to an additional almost two-hour delay after finally scanning in was simply unacceptable. This lack of efficient boarding and communication was incredibly inconvenient. To add insult to injury, the experience was compounded by an apparent overcharge for the service. Attempts to resolve this issue through correspondence with TFL have been met with silence, which is frankly appalling. This lack of customer service and accountability is deeply concerning. Based on this experience, particularly the disorganized return journey, the excessive wait times, the overcharging, and the unresponsive customer service, I would unfortunately not recommend Uber Boat by Thames Clippers. The poorly trained staff seemed unable to manage the boarding process effectively, leading to significant delays and frustration. While the concept of river travel is appealing, the execution in this instance fell far short of...
