Harrods – a place that surely every visitor to London wishes to experience at least once. And so, I did.
The idea of dining at Harrods seemed an excellent one.
Having barely begun to explore the store, I found myself feeling rather hungry and thus decided to visit The Grill at Harrods, located on the ground floor.
As I was dining alone, I was, as is customary, seated at the bar. However, for health reasons, I politely requested a proper table. My request was met with visible reluctance, though, after some hesitation, I was eventually accommodated.
For my aperitif, I selected a Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial, which was priced at £21. Given the prestige of Harrods, I expected a refined presentation. However, the glass in which it was served bore such evident water stains that they were easily captured in a simple photograph—something quite surprising for an establishment of this stature.
The menu offered Japanese and Australian Wagyu fillet, priced at £100 per 100g and £75 per 100g respectively. I opted for the Australian Wagyu, ordering 200g at a cost of £150, and requested it to be prepared medium-rare.
To my disappointment, the steak arrived well done—leaning towards medium. Moreover, it emitted a distinct liver-like aroma, a telltale sign that it was likely cut from the end portion of the fillet. As I attempted to cut into it, I found that in nearly half the steak, I needed to slice eight times to break through. Whether this was due to the presence of tendons (characteristic of an end piece) or merely a poorly sharpened knife, I could not say.
The accompanying side dish, spinach infused with mustard seeds and complemented by a béchamel-style sauce, was truly exquisite. Yet, despite its excellence, it could not redeem the disappointment of the fillet.
One expects impeccable quality and service at an establishment of Harrods’ reputation—particularly at this price point. Sadly, on this occasion, the experience fell markedly short of...
Read moreMyself and my partner went here after receiving a virgin media experience gift from my partners family. Upon arrival it was clear they viewed us as a couple who couldn't afford to eat there and I heard the phrase " wowcher couple" from a few members of staff when they thought we couldn't hear them. I'm giving 2 stars as the waitor we had was lovely, he was very attentive, explained to us what we could order and what we could trade if we didn't like things off of the set menu, he was very helpful and completely went above what anyone could ask of a waitor, I only wish I had gotten his name so that we could mention him by name. From what we experienced the service was miles above the foood I asked for my steak well done and when I received it, it looked well done. I cut it to take a bite and it was red throughout the middle but the edges were completely burnt, me and my boyfriend despite being the "wowcher couple" regularly enjoy a steak from miller and carter and its always been stunning, for the price on the menu I was shocked, we were not offered any sort of sauce on our steaks so when they arrived it was genuinely a steak on a plate and nothing else. The sides that we ordered were not good, the chips were nice though but everything else felt rushed and like we didn't receive the same quality of food as other customers because it was a virgin media experience day but for us it was a gift so it was hurtful to see that we were treated as much lesser than other customers. I've never left a google review before as I work at a salon that is full of customers who are constantly over critical of small things but I was really disappointed by our experience and was genuinely looking forward to finding a new favourite restaurant that we could look forward to...
Read moreWhat a treat it was to spend some time exploring Harrods Department Store in London. While you will see all sorts of high-end fashion items for both men and women - handbags, scarves, watches, dresses, suites, shoes, perfumes and colognes, did I mention handbags - you can also take a great from your exploration to indulge in a bite to eat there as well. After taking a look around at all the options, we chose to experience The Steakhouse at Harrods.
You start your experience with your choice of cuts of meat. You pick the cut and let them know how you want it cooked, order whatever sides you would like, and grab a seat at the bar top. While this sounds typical, it certainly is not. She you select the cut of meat you prefer, they cut it right in front of you for you to see. Petty cool I thought.
Once seated at the bar, your facing more kitchen staff along with your servers as they prepare the rest of your meal. My strip steak was pretty darned great. It is arguably comparable to the very of steaks I've had back in the states whether at Ruth's Chris, Capital Grille, etc. It's up there... and was absolutely delicious!
While the price for our 2-person lunch at The Steakhouse at Harrods was higher than we had hoped for lunch, we weren't complaining. Between the two of us we enjoyed a 6.5 oz USA prime cut, a 7 oz filet, mash with gravy, French fries, along with mac 'n cheese. Add a fee for Bernaise sauce, a Coke and a pint, along with a 12.5% service fee, and we left with a £93 bill, or about $145.
Should you find yourself in London for the first time, do not hesitate to make a visit to Harrods for a bite at...
