A Memorable Evening at the Porcupine Pub, Thanks to Mr. Varun

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Porcupine Pub in London, and I must say it was an exceptional experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for a delightful evening.

Our server, Mr. Varun, played a crucial role in making our night truly special. His professionalism, knowledge, and genuine friendliness elevated our dining experience to new heights. From recommending the perfect drinks to guiding us through the menu with expertise, Mr. Varun showcased a remarkable understanding of the establishment and its offerings.

What stood out the most was Mr. Varun's attentiveness and his ability to make us feel valued as customers. He went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our dining experience was flawless. His recommendations were spot on, demonstrating not only his knowledge of the menu but also his understanding of our preferences.

It's rare to come across a server who not only excels in their role but also adds a personal touch to the service. Mr. Varun did just that with his infectious smile and genuine enthusiasm. It was evident that he takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about the satisfaction of the patrons.

The Porcupine Pub itself deserves commendation for its inviting ambiance, delicious food, and a well-curated drink selection. However, it was Mr. Varun who truly made our evening unforgettable. His dedication to providing excellent service did not go unnoticed, and I can confidently say that this was one of the best dining experiences I've had in my entire life.

In conclusion, a big thank you to Mr. Varun for his exceptional service and warm hospitality. The Porcupine Pub should be proud to have such a dedicated and personable individual on their team. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience in London, I highly recommend a visit to the Porcupine Pub, where the combination of a charming atmosphere and outstanding service, courtesy of Mr. Varun, promises an evening...

We were very disappointed with the service we received on this visit to The Porcupine. We have no complaints about the food and always enjoy our food at your pubs. However we made a booking for 5.30 and because we were a little early the restaurant wasn't ready but this wasn't a problem as we bought a drink and sat outside. The waitress had told us to give them 5 minutes but we gave them a little longer, maybe 10 to 15, so we weren't hassling them exactly at 5.30. When we did go upstairs there were already 3 tables occupied. No orders had been taken at this point and when they were ready to take orders everybody gave their orders before us (even though they hadn't made a bookingbut just by virtue of the fact that they were seated just minutes before us). On top of that each group were served starters and mains before we got our order. We were not served until 6-30. Considering we were given a time slot of 5.30 to 7 this hardly left time to eat leisurely and have a dessert if we had wanted one. We had specifically chosen the 5.30. slot because were hoping to catch the the 7.05 train from London Liverpool Street. Even though the other guests were seated slightly earlier than us, the waitress knew we had arrived and we should have had our time slot honoured. If we had wanted to eat at 6.30 we would have booked for 6 to 6.15, not 5.30. Our disappointment was made known to the waitress but we didn't even...

Went in for the Sunday roast and it was horrific. The worst roast me and my partner have ever had, and we have roasts pretty regularly.

Firstly our table was wobbly and customers had to keep leaning over my head to pay for their food, as the card machine was directly behind my seat. When we went to put some paper under the table we found broken glass scattered all over the floor.

When the food arrived it looked good but the reality couldn't have been further. The beef was totally overcooked, the chicken dry, the parsnips were undercooked and weirdly crunchy on the inside but soggy on the outside. The potatoes were diabolical, they looked like they'd been covered in flower on the outside to make them crispy but they were dry and collapsed as soon as we bit into them. The Yorkshire puddings were soggy but also tough, like they'd been frozen, thawed, then left out for a week before being heated in a microwave.

We also ordered a side of pigs in blankets that were so burnt we couldn't understand how anyone in their right mind would allow them to leave the kitchen, let alone serve them to customers as food. This set the tone for the entire meal, unprofessional, and left a bad taste in our mouths.

We will not return...

You will find The Porcupine in Leicester Square London within a short stroll of Leicester Square Tube, Shaftesbury Avenue and Long Acre - however you won't find another like it. Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality. A UNIQUE CITY CENTRE PUB WITH A RICH HISTORY The Porcupine has proudly stood its ground since 1725. In years gone by we were a haunt of the freemasons and in 1807 became the meeting place for another group; the 'Lodge of Confidence'. In 1822 a gang of thieves came here for a celebratory drink, after burgling at the house of Lord Ashbrook. They were nabbed after asking the landlord to put their equipment behind the bar for 'safe keeping'!

Significantly exceeded expectations, Outstanding meat pies, service, and atmosphere. I came here for a late lunch, in the small upstairs dining room, Not crowded at all though. I was served fast, well and attentively by Varun. For my meal I ordered the steak pale ale pie. Every aspect of the dish was perfect. The potatoes were creamy and well seasoned with a mixed salt. The side of beef stock gravy was rich and they gave plenty for the meal. Main course was the best all around meat pie I have ever had. The crust was crispy but not hard, buttery but not too heavy. The meat had a unique and balanced taste from the ale but in no way overpowered. A true 10.0/10.0 performance, hands down one of the best meals I've ever had and reviewed. The level of perfection beyond justified any concerns you may have with pricing.

When we visited the pub we thought it would be a tourist trap due to the location. Well, it was far from this. The Porcupine proved to be a great option for dining with a local flavor, downtown central London. We booked a supper for 7 on the first floor / attic. The place was nice and pleasant, the service was stellar and the food was actually very good! We tried all the pies, sausages, fish & chips, burgers, haloumi fries and almost all the beers. The food was excellent, prices were good and they gladly split the receipt for us. Finally, the windows on the 1st floor offer a nice view to Charing Cross Rd. We also had some pints in the self-service pub (ground floor). Very enjoyable. Next to Leicester Square Tube Station. Highly recommended.
