Constantly praising Castle Rock joints would get tiresome if they weren't just so bloody great.
This venue is tucked away in the Lace Market in the shadow of St Mary's, serving a pretty diverse range of cask and craft. Beware the occasional pint of craft beer that comes in at over a fiver. It's all very nice except the price!
With a modestly sized bar area, it's often busy, and it's not unknown for the St Mary's choir to be filling up the space after a service (and, rumour has it, usually before as well).
Staff are Castle Rock vintage and thus thoroughly personable as well as knowing their IPA from their elbow, which isn't always the case in a popular venue just down the hill. No real outside seating to speak of except a couple of tables just outside the door.
If you catch this place when it's quiet it's a lovely little haven in the Lace Market and when it's buzzing you know you're in for a good time.

Read moreWe have often passed by this hidden away gem whilst exploring Nottingham's Lace Market area, it is well worth a visit for a variety of reasons.. The food, and for me in particular the Homemade Pie (in this case Chicken, Cider and Mushroom in a herby sauce) which was the BEST I have yet had. The beer, it is a Castle Rock pub stocking a good range of ales plus their award-winning Harvest Pale. The atmosphere and staff are just great, because the pub is close to the City Centre but hidden away on a side street you get a genuine traditional pub experience. When at the bar you cannot fail to notice their large range of whiskies (somewhere in the region of 40?) which I did not have the time to sample on this occasion BUT I WILL RETURN. M PART TWO; Indeed I have returned and the food is as good as it was for my previous visit, had the Reindeer sausage and mash (sorry Rudolph!) and was perfect. Service and choice of ales...
Read moreMoving from LA to Scotland with our two dogs - 1 night stopover in Nottingham, jet lagged and looking for somewhere central with good beer, good food, and dog friendly. The Keans Head knocked it out the park. Easy to make reservation by email - good back and forth with John. Got there around 8pm, lovely warm and welcoming room - smiley faces behind the bar greet us enthusiastically, knew who we were, showed us where the dog treats were and let us try the local pale ale. Our table was ready promptly and we had fabulous Indian food along with another pint. Service was immaculate, food quality excellent and great value for money. If you like beer - go here. If you like Indian food - go here. If you have dogs - go here. If you fit all three of the criteria, you can’t afford to miss this place. Highly...
