Absolutely terrible customer service will not be returning. Arrived for a birthday party which was booked well in advance and we were told we would have to wait for our table as someone else was on it (we were 5 minutes early.) The member of staff pointed to a table which were only beginning their main meal. We sat and waited for 10-15 minutes before someone else in the restaurant left, nobody came near us to ask if we wanted a drink or to apologize for the delay. We ordered the food and I happened to double check my order as it was an item I struggled to pronounce. On arrival of the food I noticed that mine order was not as described, I asked a member of staff who confirmed this was not my meal. I was told I would have to wait at least 20 minutes if I wanted the meal I had actually ordered. I refused this as I was out for a birthday and the meal had already been delayed waiting for the table. Throughout the meal it was very clear we were the discussion of the staff members as we were pointed at and spoke about which everyone said was quite embarrassing. The food was fine, we all felt it wasn’t anything great. Our waiter handed us the bill and apologized for the error, he was certain he had taken the order correctly but the management were refusing the take the meal off the bill. I did not expect at all to have the meal removed however, I expected a member of the management team to speak to us and apologize and it was very apparent by the glares we received this was not going to happen. It was clear our waiter had been blamed however, I am certain this was not the case as I did double check the order with him. When I asked to speak to the manager after 15 minutes waiting we got fed up and asked to speak to someone else as it was clear the manager had gone into hiding. We were then met by another member of staff who rudely set the bill down and said “chicken is off” and walked away before coming back within a minute with the card machine. Many of the party have a hospitality background and we we’re all very disappointed, this is not how you...
Read moreI booked a table for 6 at least 6-8 weeks ago but when we arrived 10 minutes early the blonde girl at the door said that our table wasn't quite ready yet so I asked if we could sit & have a drink whilst we waited until. Her reply was that we would have to wait outside: in the freezing cold at the end of November! After her saying that I told her that I was with family who had travelled 100's of miles each to be with me for my birthday weekend & that her attitude towards me was ruining it. She then said that she could put us on a smaller table to have drinks & when our table was free she would move us. We ordered drinks but were all sweltering because we'd been put in a tiny corner right in front of the food grill. Our booked table was then given to other people! No offer of a free round of drinks or coffees. Hospitality 101: if you mess up you do what you need to keep the customers happy. I wanted to leave but where was we going to end up eating? All the decent places were unable to do a table of 6 at 8.30pm on a Friday. A really helpful (unlike the blonde girl) waiter took our food orders & the food was fantastic. Then they brought over a plate with 5 pieces of Baklava, a scoop of ice-cream with spray cream around the bottom with a candle in the middle. They sang happy birthday to me & I thought that they'd done that due to the complete nightmare my night had been but no they just do that as standard. Due to the heat & cramped table we only had 1 drink each & as soon as we'd finished eating we asked for the bill. If we'd been put on our original table as booked we would have ordered starters, desserts & a lot more drinks so thanks to the blonde girl at the door with her attitude & rudeness you unfortunately lost a lot of sales. It's because of her I've given you such a low rating as she completely ruined my birthday meal & I'd so been so looking forward to it....

Food & Drink 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The food and drink at Dunya was excellent. One of our party enquired as to the Soup of the Day and they called over the head chef who asked what they would like. He made fresh tomato soup there and then, and apparently it was to die for! The selection of food all looked incredible, and the portions were a very good size.
Ambience 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited on a Tuesday evening, and Dunya were still participating in the COVID-19 Eat out to Help Out scheme, and it had a decent number of people in. It is well laid out to cope with social distancing and the décor, and the feel was very pleasant indeed.
Accessibility 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The entrance, seating area and toilets are wheelchair accessible and on the same level. My only comment - in fact, my only point deduction in this entire review, is that there was no apparent means for drying your hands after using the basin in the gents. You have to go to the communal basin outside the cubicle where there is also a hand drier.
Cost 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The cost of the food and drinks was very reasonable - even before the Eat Out to Help Out discount was applied. The bill, after discount, came to £100 for 4 people, with 3 courses each and drinks.
Service 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The service was excellent here. From the very attentive waitress, to the knowledgeable barman, to the head chef coming to us to ask if he could do any personal requests for us (like the tomato soup). They all came to say goodbye when we left also.
Summary 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Dunya Turkish restaurant is a new jewel in Plymouth's crown. It is an all-round excellent restaurant. We will be...
