If there was ever a textbook definition of a perfect fish, the grilled bream here would be it! The skin was so crispy, and the simplicity of lemon and salt really allowed the fish’s flavour to stand out. We also ordered the bitoque and I LOVED the rice. It was very fragrant and flavourful, while the steak was covered in a creamy and slightly sour sauce. Normally I don’t like sour flavours that much but this sauce had just the right amount! I don’t know why but I couldn’t stop eating the fries as well! The temperature inside was a bit hot but there’s outdoor seats which would be cooler. The environment and decor was very comfortable though, and it seems like a place where locals frequent. I really liked the giant palmier from the bakery and I’ll have to come back with an empty stomach to try the rest of the baked goods! However, this was not the case. I loved how the employees are all Portuguese (I literally got in and imediatly start speaking Portuguese without even thinking twice about it) and how the things I ordered tasted just like they should. They are authentic and a piece of home far away from home. It was brilliant ideia to also have Portuguese products for sale. I manage to buy a Tutti Frutti Compal, some nobre sausages, Tuna, some tea and some chouriço. Overall, it was brilliant and a wonderful find in Plymouth. The perfect value vs taste cafe. You will not find a better coffee and cake for a cheaper price than at Lisbon Bakery, period.
You always leave feeling like you forgot to pay for something but its just that good!
Ditch the Costa, and try some real artisan cakes, coffee and meals at Lisbon and you will not regret it. A true local gem and a perfect spot if your a student with time for a cat up with friends in between exams.
Also, look up if you're visiting. They have an amazing selection of alcohol within variety you would struggle to find anywhere else in the city.
