We visited Grecian on the Barbican on Sunday evening after hearing good things about their fresh fish. Sadly, the experience was disappointing from the start. We ordered the chicken wings and prawn cocktail as starters — the wings were tough and unappetising, and the prawn cocktail was bland and underwhelming. For the main course, we ordered fish, which was served as a fillet with lots of sides. Unfortunately, the fish tasted overwhelmingly of butter, masking any natural flavour. It was unpleasant and didn’t seem fresh, despite the waiter assuring us otherwise. We couldn’t eat it, and to be fair, the staff didn’t charge us for the main. However, when we mentioned our concerns, the waiter told us not to "insult the chef" — which felt inappropriate considering the feedback was honest and polite. A good kitchen should take criticism as an opportunity to improve. We paid for the drinks and starters, but overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially not for seafood lovers. Friendly service isn’t enough when the food is so underwhelming.

Incredible food- try the lamb. High quality and very tasty. I had the meze sharer and wasnt disappointed. Great value for money. Service was excellent with staff noticing when the air con was too cold and changing immediately. Our table was also moved- not at our request but as a result of staff noticing we were sat near quite a loud party and offering us the option to move if we liked. It's this 5* service and excellent food that I would recommend. Only watch out is it does get very busy and noisey/loud as a result of being popular. I dont mind this but it was a bit overwhelming for my sister- until we were moved to a quieter spot which was perfect. Will be coming back. Thank you.

This is the best roast I have had by far. It came with 5 different meats and all of the trimmings! What more could you want? I am very very impressed and highly satisfied. The whole evening has been outstanding from start to finish. The roast was the perfect sized portion with 5 roasties and a huge range of vegetables including Cauliflower cheese my favourite! So much effort, thought and passion went into each component and you could tell. Cute atmosphere with lovely decor. Staff were welcoming, friendly with excellent customer service. I cannot wait to revisited and highly recommend to everyone.

We visited the Grecian Taverna on Saturday 12th March as a party of 13. As usual on a Saturday it was packed and lively with a great atmosphere. It was our first visit since lockdown, although we had frequently visited many times over the years so assumed we would receive the same standard of food and service as we always had, however, on this occasion we were wrong! We were asked to preorder our starters and mains due to being a large party which we all did by looking at the website menu. We waited an hour for our starters, which were delicious, however one of the party had ordered the tuna fish and had confirmed the order twice with the waitress on the evening but when the starter came she was told they no longer do tuna fish so they were giving her fish cake instead. Baring in mind that the tuna fish had been confirmed twice before the service, nobody apologised or asked if there was an alternative preferred, just a fish cake put in front and told that it was instead of tuna!! It was declined out of principle and because of the attitude of the server, if it had been explained earlier that the chosen tuna was no longer available so please select an alternative then that would have been fine, but to be told it was a fait accompli, after twice confirming the order at the table then this was completely unacceptable! So, after the starters we waited another hour for the main courses which were up to the usual high standards and enjoyed, despite the 2 hour wait! Then came time to settle the bill, and things went downhill from there! The meals were all charged at way over the prices advertised on the website, approx £4-£5 more per main. No apology or explanation was offered when we challenged this just told by the head waitress that these were the prices and if we didn’t like it then don’t eat there again! What a disappointing end to the evening! As I said earlier, we have all enjoyed many evenings at the Grecian Taverna in the past but I strongly suspect we will not be enjoying any in the future. The food was excellent, if very delayed, but the attitude of the lady in charge was absolutely appalling and let the whole establishment down! Nobody would have objected to the increased prices if they had been explained but the arrogant attitude was something I have never experienced before anywhere and it ruined a perfectly lovely evening for the whole party. Such a shame, Grecian Taverna has always been the place to go in Plymouth but that is the past and I suspect the future will not be as...

DO NOT GO! You would find more greek in the middle aisle at lidl than this place!

From the moment on arrival our group was made to feel unwelcomed and separated on different tables. Accusations of bringing in wine when we had purchased it from the premises? To have it taken away and then returned with no apology.? Insults with food choice when you was served. .poor sense of humour. Table placement on the dancefloor and it was OUR fault we was in the way?.... As a gesture we was repeatedly asked if we wanted free alcohol as that was their method to try and shut us up. Which we refused. Chairs went missing and moved purposely so we couldn't finish our 3 courses And finally as a parting gift I was shouted at for "blocking" the bar when saying our goodbyes.

Would not accept a refund if offered as this is money much needed for customer skills training for the manager, also stock control and table placement skills need serious...
