We all know Wetherspoons for its historic buildings, excellent alcohol at the cheapest prices, and good food at reasonable prices (although, slowly, the price of food is becoming standard with other restaurants; e.g., for a few pounds more, you can buy a pasta Alfredo at twice the size in an Italian restaurant).

Normally, I would give a 4 star rating for the Gog & Magog, but my last visit gave me a shock, as I was asked by the manager to deny my own experience. The cheek!

I ordered a large fish and chips but was given a small size. When I complained, the manager argued that it was the standard large size, although he did kindly reordered for me. The reordered fish was twice the size, yet he insisted the size was the same, only the first fish looked smaller because the ends were curled (the curvature didn’t make much difference, by the way). The manager did say that the fish came in 2 sizes, and the 1st fish was in the large batch, so it could be a fault with the packaging and distribution of food, but his mistake was to imply that my cognitive faculties are not up to scratch.

I have reason to believe that the food arrives at the Wetherspoons pub precooked and reheated on the premises. For example, I am told that the poached eggs for eggs benedict haven't been delivered, and would I like fried eggs instead?

Wetherspoons in general, and the Gog & Magog, in particular, need to lower their food prices as it's food cannot compete with freshly cooked food of...

We went at there at 5 pm on 1st December. It was very busy, but they had 2 staff members behind the bar serving. We waited 15 minutes only to be served. We were ordering and the guy who is taking our order didn't check twice with us the hole order to avoid mistakes... We sitted down and in 15 minutes the food was on our table, BUT there was a mistake in one of the burguers we ordered. We asked for buttermilk chicken burger with brie and chili jam plus 2 baconnaise sauces as an extra. Well, my burger came with grilled chicken breast. We try to change for my original buttermilk one and they brought after 30 MINUTES (does it take that time to change a chicken breast for a butttermilk one instead?)... After that time my burger came again and BOOM, it was just a normal buttermilk burger with no brie and no chilli jam and NO baconnaise sauces... DISGUSTING AND DEFICIENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. If they are busy they should have more people on shift... It looks like the manager doesn't know how to do his work properly planning the shifts. And next to our table one of the staff members apologized twice to another group of customers related with the food. And you arrive to the pub and when you enter looking for empty table, you find it but full of dirty plates and glasses... More staff in there please, if not the manager should be fired for...

This Wetherspoons pub in Plymouth is a typical example of the chain. It has everything you would expect—affordable drinks, a good selection of beers, and a standard pub menu. The food is reasonably priced and generally well-prepared, with classic pub meals like fish and chips, burgers, and all-day breakfasts.

One of the biggest advantages of this pub is its location. It is close to the old town and the docks, making it a convenient stop for both locals and tourists. Whether you are exploring the historic streets of Plymouth or spending time by the waterfront, this pub offers an easy place to relax and grab a drink or a meal.

However, like many Wetherspoons pubs, it has sticky carpets, which can make the place feel a bit worn. The atmosphere is what you would expect—busy, casual, and straightforward. It may not be the most stylish or modern pub, but it serves its purpose as a reliable spot for affordable food and drinks.

If you're looking for a cheap and easy place to eat near Plymouth’s historic areas, this Wetherspoons pub does the job. It may not offer anything special in terms of decor, but its location makes it a...

A Wetherspoon's is a Wetherspoon's wherever we have been and each one offers a reasonable fare of food and drink for a reasonable price. Just occasionally you come across one of their better characteristics of the company. The restoration of many a fine establishment that may have fallen by the wayside for some reason. I'm not sure if this building will comes into that category as this is our first, and only visit, to this establishment. An all round pleasant ambience as we sat and enjoyed our reasonably priced drinks, we didn't sample the food as time was against us. But yet another Wetherspoon's on our travels, and like them all, upto now, a pleasant experience. Toilet facilities were fine, my wife assured me that the ladies was clean and tidy, and we would have liked to stay longer, but we were a long way from home.

The place was realy noice, dirty and with a lot of drunk people (we were there around 4pm). It was our first time there ( and the last one). We had a long trip to Plymouth so we were really hungry. We always had a really good experience in any city with Weatherspoon. When someone finished their meal, long time no one is coming to clean the table and take the plates or glasses away. Who is coming in, put all on other tables. We done the same and cleaned our table with wipes. We order through the app and waiting time was around 20 min. The pizza, fries and chicken were good, the burger meat was like cardboard, the lasagna was tasty, but the bottom was burnt. In their kitchen were big chaos with dirty dishes. I went to refill the coffee twice - and that's how it was and no one cleaned or washed anything.

The Manager's Special with Winter vegetables would have been delicious, except I'd asked them to leave the gravy off to make it gluten free and instead it arrived like this. Luckily I'm not deathly allergic but as I couldn't eat it my friend bought me a gluten free apple crumble which was heavenly. My pint glass wasn't particularly clean. The toilets are lovely and the pub itself is pleasant and warm which is worth money in itself these days. A yummy man smiled at me at the bar then disappeared. Apart from the blinkin gravy this would have been a win. There's a smoking garden at the front and a rather good charity shop opposite. You can walk to the sea. All good, except that potentially deadly gravy I'd asked not to have. Best apple crumble ever, I defy you to prove otherwise.
