Casa De Castro — Restaurant in Portsmouth

What a delightful little place this is. Discovered it by mere chance whilst picking up at item from a shop nearby. Walked by and looked at the lovely cake display in the window and then saw they had a garden at the rear. It was a warm balmy September day so we decided to have a little cake treat coffee and a pot of tea for me in their lovely and enchanting garden. Smashing chap the Owner was polite and busy busy. I had a pear frangipane with my tea which was ace. Next time, and there will definitely be a next time, I'm going to try the Portuguese Custard Tart or Vegetarian Quiche - all homemade. 2024 update:

I've been coming here for several years, now, and have never been disappointed. Everything's hand-made on the premises. The quiches are the best I've ever had, the cakes and pastries (I think I've now tried them all) are always impressively light and tasty (hence the award, see pic), they have Lavazza coffee and there's a selection of teas and cold soft drinks. One of my favourite places to visit in Southsea. It is very different from anywhere else in the area and I am always impressed by the pastries! Very friendly owner, pleasant ambience and I like that his wife's artwork is up on the wall. The only tiny thing that I would do to improve the place is a little tidy up of the garden - more flowers! But I agree we are just coming out of winter so not the best time for our gardens. Overall a lovely business that I hope keeps...
