We already raised this complaint in person & they seem to be bit stubborn about decision, they made. We ordered Mini Dosas & they’re not served with any Sambar & Chutneys. For explanation, they told, Dosas are included in Breads section now & we must order Sambar / Chutney separately, which comes only with their Stuffed Dosas. They must not make up such rule, which seems totally unfair to an Indian, especially South Indian. Restaurant is named after a famous South Indian city & in my opinion, they are unfit to use that name - “MADURAI”, the city where any restaurants - you get a lot of accompaniments / curries/ gravies, free of cost - all you need to order is your Bread (Poori/Chapatti/Parotta/IdlyDosa Varieties). None of the restaurants in the city Madurai will charge you extra, for Sambar or Chutney for the first instance. You will not be served just dosas without Sambar/Chutney. I see this as brand new practice FOOLING THE LOCALS & making them pay for Sambar and Chutney, which must be served for free, with the Dosas. It feels like… paying for Cheese on Pizza, paying for vinegar & salt on fish/chips. Madurai is famous city for Parottas. Google it and you will know. They named after it and not serving Parottas, stating they are Gluten-Free restaurant. Either change your name to something foreign, don’t use native’s names and deceive people. As a South Indian, I will NOT recommend this restaurant & will never go again. They can fool the locals here and charge them for anything/everything they’ll come up with. At least, Indians MUST NOT encourage it, as they seem to concentrate ONLY on what locals want. Ironically, this restaurant “MADURAI” is not for INDIANS, Especially not for people from Tamilnadu. If you want to try authentic SOUTH INDIAN FOOD, please go to RISHI’s, BANANA LEAF, or MADRAS DOSA. They are all very authentic & NOT at all pricey as this so called “MADURAI” restaurant. I’d recommend even Locals to try other restaurants, than...
Read moreEdit August 2025, glad to say our most recent meal was EVEN better than the first time. You have to try the Monkfish Grill. Delicious delicate flavours and perfectly cooked fish (not easy). Everyone loved their meals, chicken dhosa also a winner.
Give the chai liqueur a go as well. We all loved it!
Thanks for another epic family meal,
Delicious gluten free cooking in Glasgow. They are waiting on coeliac uk coming to assess for certification because they do not use any gluten ingredients at all in the kitchen. There are no wheat flour breads made or seved on site.
Such a lovely location and an interesting menu. No boring bunhas here, only real South Indian food. Refreshing!
The starters were to die for, fish and chicken pakora style with lovely dips but it was the spiced potato dumplings (and dip) which we loved most.
Main courses, selected vegetarian, chicken, fish, lamb dishes. We had the rice, dhosas and delicious lentil/rice pancakes to go with everything. Really lovely to have some accompanying "breads" which didn't fill us up and even better didn't contain gluten so I was able to join in with all of it!
Each of the main courses has really deep quality flavour, definitely individually made from scratch. Beautifully aromatic and spiced just perfectly. *No gloopy bright red gunk here (my pet hate in British Indian restaurants).
Deserts were surprisingly good. Lemon gf cheese cake was awesome.
Menu could do with spice rating symbols, v and vg sumpols need to be added. But they've just opened and are winning on sp many other things, the service was really friendly and informative. Thanks guys well be back! * sorry dodgy photos taken by...
Read moreA quick google of the local area lead us to Madurai for our evening meal with friends. And it was utterly fantastic!
The menu may seem limited but the quality shines through in the dishes that are in the menu. Being a South Indian Restaurant the focus is mainly on those dishes so no Masala’s or Kormas, but their South Indian equivalents are more than a match for anything you require from an Indian Meal.
The Chicken Pavakada for starter was lovely and came in a crisp batter and a delightful sauce that I kept for the main too!
The Chicken Ghassi and Pundu Chicken main courses are outstanding, the flavours in there are immense and among the best I can think of ever having when visiting an Indian restaurant. So filling and complex flavours. The Masala Rice on the side was a brilliant accompaniment to them.
Desserts are normally hit or miss for Indian food but here I can say I had the best dessert ever and you can tell some actual effort went into making them and it rounded of the meal well so I’d recommend you have the Coconut and Date Pudding, served with a mango sorbet. Excellent!
I don’t usually wax lyrical on places but the staff and owner were so pleasant and attentive , they explained they were new to owning the restaurant and their effort deserves the recognition for the quality of food they deserve. Get down there and start filling up their tables for you won’t be...
