We visited last month and we did not have a good time.

I booked this online earlier that day stating in the notes that it was a pre-theatre meal and leaving at least 2 hours for us to enjoy our meal and go to the show. The booking was a 2 hour slot.

When we arrived at 5:30pm we were pretty much the only people in the restaurant. We got our menus and ordered some cocktails. These took a little while to come but were nice when they did arrive. Something that I remember is that our server came over to ask what we had ordered a while after we ordered so I think he had forgotten to place the order.

We then ordered some food and later ordered some wine. The wine arrived and no food had come. We started to notice that other tables who had arrived after us were receiving their food before us. We thought maybe this is because they have ordered breads which would just be faster, or that something we had ordered would take especially long.

After an hour without receiving any food we noticed a table that came in and received food within 15 minutes with many of the dishes we had ordered. At 6:40pm my partner had to get up and go and find our server as nobody had spoken to us since we received our wine. The server told my partner that they didn't have an order for food from us despite him being the one who took it. We had to reorder everything. He said they would have our food out to us in 10 minutes. However my partner had to request that they comp our drinks for the inconvenience which he agreed to.

Most of the food did arrive within 10 minutes and it was all delicious but by this point we were in a rush so it wasn't enjoyable. Our server came over to check that everything had arrived but we were missing the potato dish. He said that this dish takes longer to make and that it would be out shortly but I do not believe him, I think he forgot to order this again. We paid the bill and left with just enough time to get to get to our seats at the show.

You are the closest restaurant to the Kings Theatre so you really need to be more aware of time and if your customers have been sitting for an hour with no food you need to question why and rectify the situation. We should not have had to chase after our server and request a discount.

When you mess up, you need to offer the resolution, not the customer. I will not be back and definitely won't be...

I’ve been sitting on this review for a few days because I don’t normally leave reviews.

I booked Roya for a 30th birthday dinner. I had it booked weeks ago. I’m sure initially I was told we would have the table for 2 hours but when I phoned to adjust the numbers before the dinner I was told we only had the table for 1hr 45 minutes. I did say to the person on the phone that if they felt that was enough time for their service then ok, they replied on the phone they were very fast.

When we arrived the table was set for 8 people, we were a group of 15. This resulted in us getting the table 20 minutes later than our booked time, which meant I couldn’t even place a balloon or anything for my sister arriving. The area we were seated was very tightly squeezed in.

The food arrived very quickly, a bit too quickly to be honest. Despite it coming out so fast though not a single thing was warm, it was all lukewarm or cold. Someone came and asked us if we needed any bread or anything to which we said yes and it never appeared.

When 1 hour and 45 minutes had passed from the original booking time we were told our time was up and we had to leave. I reminded the staff member (I think she was a manager) that we still had a cake to do, she argued with me that they had another booking and we could go to the bar area (which wasn’t really big enough for us) and I told her we were seated 20 minutes late. To that she was very rude and said it was only a few minutes (it wasn’t I specifically checked as I knew we were on limited time). She then also said we weren’t seated because some of our party hadn’t arrived yet anyway. Again this was untrue as they took our drinks order and started serving food almost immediately after we had sat down even though some people weren’t there yet.

Honestly this ruined the whole evening, ruined the surprise of the cake and just spoiled it for the birthday girl.

I’m so disappointed. I booked this place because it is my sisters favourite restaurant, she has been many times and recommended it to a lot of people.

I wouldn’t have left a review if maybe the manager had been a bit nicer about the whole situation but her attitude was quite disgusting and she was incredibly rude.

Second bad experience here...

I booked an early dinner for my friends birthday (3 of us in total). Two of us arrived ahead of our booking slot and we were seated and ordered a cocktail. Our other friend arrived 10 mins after our booking slot. Before she’d even had a chance to look at the drinks menu the waiter had shot over to tell us we had to order immediately and be out in the next 1hr 10 mins (implying we were over half an hour late for our booking). This was a terrible beginning to what we expected to be a lovely relaxing evening. Confused, I checked my email booking confirmation to ensure we hadn’t arrived later than expected to which confirmed we had arrived on tkme and should have the table slightly longer than what the waiter had said. When I let him know of this he continued to insist I was wrong until I showed him the booking confirmation. He then rushed away and didn’t bother to come back to apologise or acknowledge that he was wrong and our reservation was for longer. Instead he and other waiter intermittently came back and forth every couple of minutes to ask us to place our food order (again when my friend hardly had the chance to order a drink). The menu is primarily a sharing menu and so we needed some time to establish what we’d like to order and share between us.

We felt so harassed and rushed we felt like a burden and not welcome. Not an enjoyable experience or atmosphere.

My friends and I have visited before with only a few understandable teething problems experienced but with some really good food! It’s a shame that the service on this occasion has impacted it so much that we would no longer recommend a visit to anyone looking for a...

I love Middle Eastern food and this place was fantastic. The dipping platter with the bagel was excellent and a must have. The mouhamara was spicy just the way I like it. The bread and dips arrived shortly after ordering. The mazzeh starters started arriving reasonably quickly, we were just finishing the bread and dips. Everything we had was great, the Middle Eastern tatties had been recommended and they hit the spot. The grills arrived before we had finished the mazzeh but it was good to mix these in with everything else. The mains were probably the highlight for me. The kebab torsch with the pomegranate molasses and the short rib in passion fruit were interesting flavour combinations that worked well together. Definitely a bit different from other Middle Eastern restaurants. We shared a baklava ice cream sandwich. My wife really loved it, I thought it was good but I really like a straight forward baklava on its own. We tried two of the mocktails and really enjoyed both. Service was excellent, quick and the waitress was full of enthusiasm for the menu. The price was reasonable given the high quality food, great service and stylish setting. I will definitely return in the future.

Came for dinner on a rainy Tuesday night in April 2023. Greeted as soon as we entered, jackets taken to dry off and seated. The space is very nice. From what we saw of the bar it looks classy too. We got a nice big booth with plenty of space for the dishes to come. It was a nice cosy feeling space to have a nice meal in. Drink order was taken quickly, then when the drinks came we ordered the food. The menu was explained to us and a recommendation of 2-3 dishes per person. This proved to be a good number! We had: Beetroot & Burrata Salad Middle Eastern Tatties Chicken Shawarma ROYÂ Dipping Platter Gafgazi Kebab Hazelnut Cigars The food was really nice. My favourite was the Dipping Platter - the spicy Mouhamara dip was amazing. The Persian Barbai Bagel was incredible too. So soft and perfect with the dips. The Tatties were addictive and recommended with any order. Staff were great. Never felt I was waiting to get something, but they didn't hover around. Perfect service! The website does not have the dessert menu on it but they do desserts. Not sure why they don't have it on the site. Would I go back - 100% yes. Really high quality venue, staff and Middle Eastern food.

Royá Glasgow is a delightful Middle Eastern restaurant that offers a rich culinary experience. The ambiance is warm and inviting, perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The menu features a variety of authentic dishes, including flavorful mezze, grilled meats, and fragrant rice dishes. Many patrons rave about the quality of the food, highlighting the fresh ingredients and robust flavors that truly represent Middle Eastern cuisine. The mezze platter is often recommended as a great way to sample different flavors. We had the pre theatre mix and match as recommended. We also added a lovely bottle of Lebanese white wine made from the Greek grape vine assertiko Service is typically attentive and friendly, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Declan was a wonderful host and looked afterus fantastically. Whether you're a fan of traditional dishes or looking to explore new flavours, Royá Glasgow is a great choice for anyone craving Middle Eastern cuisine. Reservations may be a good idea, especially during peak dining times. Overall, Royá Glasgow is highly recommended for its delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and excellent service.
