It’s a shame to put this review in because the pizza was great. Unfortunately yesterday, everything else wasn’t the best. We were a big group with a booking paid in full up front that none of the staff seemed to know about. We were supposed to have drinks on arrival and pizza buffet but the staff were completely unaware of our booking or what we had paid for. After we brought it to their attention, they had brought out the prosecco and informed us it was 8 pizzas between all of us and there wasn’t an actual buffet. There were also supposed to be options for the festive pizza menu on the email when we booked, which was not made clear if we could actually order on the day so we didn’t. We ended up complaining because the email wasn’t clear and we each got to order a pizza. When the pizzas started coming out, there were four that hadn’t been brought out. (Which brings back to the original 8 pizzas we were allowed) When we asked the staff about the rest of our parties pizzas, they had a lot of attitude and said they were in the oven when they weren’t. When we brought up the attitude to the manager in charge, she rolled her eyes. We understand it’s hard to accommodate big parties and it’s a busy time of year. If the staff had just even apologised or been a bit nicer about everything, I wouldn’t be complaining. Loved the pizza but won’t be back at all because of the attitude...

It’s 9 quid a pint (for a 5% West Coast IPA) plus they add on 5% to bill without telling you. And then ask if you want to leave a tip. More expensive than Singapore, where I ordered an Overtone earlier this year! They don’t take cash and the atmosphere is terrible. Apart from that it’s great.

Edit: so the owner replied, which is nice. But their claim that the 5% service charge is clearly displayed and discretionary is simply untrue I’m afraid. I’ve no idea where it’s displayed despite visiting this bar numerous times. There’s a deeper issue in that why is a bar charging a service charge - it’s not table service, nothing on cask, staff just pouring a pint. If, as the owner claims, it’s to reflect the bar staff’s hard work, perhaps more of the profit of their £9 pints should go on wages. Owner replied about tipping with claim that punters aren’t asked for a tip, which again is untrue. You can’t pay cash and the POS/card reader defaults to asking you for a tip. I’ll...

Didn't think the craft beer selection was that great- only one IPA I really fancied (a Pollys) and it wasn't available as a pint. There wasn't much that was interesting to me (I don't mean gimmicky, just wanted a few delicious, juicy IPAs). There were no DIPAs, one 4% stout, and I think one sour. I could be wrong, but it felt like there were lots of middle of the road session beers, and only one cider on tap. I felt it was a bit overrated compared to several craft beer pubs back home, where they're passionate about having great beers on tap, and the staff know what's on tap and what it tastes like... (maybe I've been spoilt?)

Probably the best place in the locality to grab a decent IPA as far as I could tell. The building was nice, but atmosphere was a bit flat I thought, although it was 6pm on a Tuesday! Had a 5+ minute wait getting my beer after paying, but...

I went to the Hogmanay Party at SBCo, a place that holds a special spot in my heart from my student days. It’s been a while since I’ve been back, but this Glasvegas-themed night was a perfect reason to return! For £25, the ticket included entry, a glass of Prosecco at the bells, $400 to play casino games, unlimited pizza, a photobooth and Elvis even made a wee appearance. I think I got my value back just in the amount of pizza I managed to put away🍕 What really makes Shilling special is their massive selection of beers. They brew a few of them on-site and have a massive range of taps from independent brewers, so you’re spoiled for choice if craft beer is your thing! For me ticks all the right boxes. Very spacious with hip decor, freshly brewed beer on draft alongside an excellent selection of beers from elsewhere (mainly the UK), quality pizza made in house at a good price, nice choice of background music. Perhaps the staff could do with being a bit more chatty/extrovert as is usual in Glasgow (does somewhere offer courses in “the patter”?). Anyway this doesn’t matter as they are both attentive, efficient and friendly enough - which is the main thing as far as I’m concerned. Oh and the smell of actual beer brewing in the place is nice! All in all a great place for the beer lover. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Beautiful bar architecture, owing to the building formerly being a bank (the toilets are in the old bank vaults). During summer months there’s a small outdoor area to sit at. Great range of drinks - rotating beer taps, including beers brewed on the premises. Good gin selection. They also make some pretty tasty pizzas, as well as dough twists, which are definitely worth trying. Special offer of a £5 pizza 12 ‘til 5 is a good one. 4 stars because the drinks can be pretty overpriced at times - £12.50 for a perfect pour gin was eye-watering, even if it is navy strength!
