The Grapes — Restaurant in Sheffield

Once again, I have visited The Grapes,it is the only pub that I visit when found into town. If you want quick service, do not go there, however if you want a relaxed atmosphere, good real ales, the best pint of Guiness in the city, you have to visit. They do not serve food as such, but the lunchtime sandwiches, and the baskets of chips are without comparison, truly a meal on their own. It is a piece of Ireland placed in the middle of Sheffield, with all of it's faults, but more so it's graces. I believe it is definitely worth a visit, perhaps I am biased because my mammy was Irish but you cannot help to love the place. I also believe that live music is current, and very regular. I also believe that the landlady is the longest serving in Sheffield, she must be doing something...

Well looking at the reviews I'm even more gutted about our experience. 4 of us went there on Saturday for a few beers. Ordered at the bar and was served I believe by the manager. She placed the beers for me on the bar and I reached for my card to pay. She told us it was cash only (who carries cash nowadays?). As we were trying to see if any of us had cash, she just picked up the beers and said "right ok" and poured them down the sink. We were stunned. One of us would have happily gone to find a bank. The lady could have dealt with that much better...

The Grapes is a friendly, traditional pub. It caters for those who seek out traditional music and you can regularly find musicians there playing both familiar and some never before heard tunes, a lot of it Irish. Anybody who wished to play or sing is welcome to participate. The Grapes does an excellent pint of Guinness and obviously, a range of other beverages. The back room is home to an interesting collection of cuttings and memorabilia dedicated to the life and death of John F Kennedy. This alone is worth the...
